Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

The advice you all gave for my printer was excellent and I was able to replace the cleaning guide, as you described. thanks so much. Now I have a problem with my dishwasher. The green clean light will not go out and the washer will not start with that light on. Is there a way to turn it off without a repairman? Thanks

Hi
Try pressing normalwash-heatdry-normalwash-heatdry-normalwash-heatdry-normalwash-heatdry then all the lights will come on. Let run for a little bit. Then keep pressing the start button. Until the unit shuts off, then try running a cycle.
Let us know if you want to know something more else please accept the suggestion.
Thanks for contacting fixya.com

I tried your suggestion and it seems to be working. I have one question. The normal wash red light stayed on after the machine stopped, ( after I pressed the start button as you said). When I wanted to run a cycle it went to Quick Rinse by itself and is going through that cycle. Is this OK? should it have let me choose the cycle or not? Thanks very much

My Jenn-air Built-in Microwave will turn on and appears to work fine, but will not heat food. need a little help. Thanks

If there is no heating please do not switch on unless you have confirmed the fault. It is possible that the Magnetron is faulty, the temperature cut off is faulty or the main capacitor is short. It is also quite possible that insect can get into the oven and create soft spots. When you switch on these will create a short and make the voltage jump and in the long run damage the magnetron. Check this link to know how a microwave works:

http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/microwave/a/5/1443/how-a-microwave-oven-works.html

So Remove cover after disconnecting , check for dirt/moisture in the cabin, if so wipe clean and dry, check the magnetron and area clean and use an jet air to clean off. Check the wave guide covers, if food had deposited
then it must be checked or replaced. See link:

My Microwave is making a loudbuzzer noise when it's on

HI Dianne,
The loud noise you describe can be from two components, I would advice to have the unit checked. The repair could be cheater then replacement, when it comes to microwaves, aftermarket parts are cheaper. I would suspect the magnetron or diode would be the problem in this description you gave above. Some of the GE models had a 10 year warranty on the magnetron, so check your user manual before having the unit serviced, it maybe under warranty for the repair anyways. You can always call GE for a warranty status on your unit as well. Good Luck

Magic chef 990W microwave clock keeps resetting. What is wrong and how can I fix?

Make sure that the program controller is receiving power - step down supply. Sometimes insect secretion can short the board and display panel and so the processor can work in such an erratic manner. If so clean, solder and reset the board. Now identify the parts by clicking this link: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/microwave/a/5/141/identifying-microwave-parts.html

Since the clock is resetting it is a fault on the main board and the processor as it is tripping. So check power, check for faults mentioned above on the board. Also if there is fault of the magnettron leak or a waveguide leak then clean and check insulation.
Remove cover after disconnecting , check for dirt/moisture in the cabin, if so wipe clean and dry, check the magnetron and area clean and use an jet air to clean off. Check the wave guide covers, if food had deposited
then it must be checked or replaced.

See link: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/microwave/a/5/1146/how-to-replace-a-microwave-guide-cover.html

Now keeping clear of the microwave, switch on, use a cup of water inside to test.
If you notice any sparks shut off as the magnetron or the main HT capacitor can be faulty. replace with same type.
If there is heating without any issues, you can use the microwave safely

Thank You for using FIXYA.

LG microwave oven Model MH-1296MZ is not fuctioning, fuse checked ok. Pannel lights are not glowing, pannel lights slowely slower stop glowing in one year period. Thanks in advance mohammad Nazeer

Make sure that the program controller is working if not check power - step down supply, the pads are responding- if not faulty pads- or the door switches, if the switch contact are not good then it will not trigger the processor to switch on the waveguides. If the lights or fan work without any display or action of program being triggered to start then it can be a possible fault on the main board or the processor. Sometimes insect secretion can short the board and display panel and so the processor can work in such an erratic manner. If so clean, solder and reset the board. Now identify the parts by clicking this link: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/microwave/a/5/141/identifying-microwave-parts.html

The error PS3 can correspond to a fault in the output stages So to recheck please make sure that the program controller is working, the pads are responding- if not faulty pads- or the door switches, if the switch contact are not good then it will not trigger the processor to switch on the waveguides. Microwave is arcing and making a popping noise as if something metal was in there while cooking.

I will assume that you do not have any metal items or bits of tinfoil lying around inside the oven.

If the sparks are happening on the inside of the microwave's cooking area while you are cooking, then make sure you clean the inner surfaces really well. Be sure to remove any cooked on food particles that may have splashed up during cooking.

Most likely you have some corrosion or dried food debris inside the cooking area, or perhaps even some food particles stuck to your WAVEGUIDE COVER PLATE. A dirty waveguide cover plate can certainly cause the arcing and sparking you describe.

If the thorough cleaning does not work, you may need to replace the waveguide cover. Here is a link to a short video that shows you exactly how to replace the wave guide cover yourself:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0xsXjhefy4

Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the video at the website indicated.

If the sparks are coming from somewhere other that the cooking area, then your unit may need more significant electrical repairs or service.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck and take care.
