Question about M&S Systems Local Audio Input Module - Xtreme Digital Music System Shelf System

2 Answers

I have a M&S Systems Model MC602 Master Unit. My doorbell is hooked in to the intercom room speakers throughout the house. At 1:30 am the other night we were awakened by constant ringing of the doorbell. There were thunderstorms in the immediate area at the time. The only way I could get rid of the ringing was to turn off all the speakers. When I turn on a speaker now, the ringing is still there. I checked the doorbell button, and that is not the cause. My owner,s manual offers no solution. Can you help? Thanks. Ray Hanson

Previous expert did not really address the problem or offer an appropriate solution. All he did was talk in generalities.

The only way that this door bell is ringing is when you manually action it ...right>???so ...the issue is on the button (switch ) or there is a short on the wires that goes to the button ..if I was in your place ..I will power it off..and open the switch button (the one from the door that it pressed to action it ) ..and see if it is still ok ..See that if yo remove one wire stopping ..if does..this means it is the problem and it needs replace ..or checked for a short circuit ..if this will not stop it ..means that the wires are making contact somewhere on the way ...and you have to go along them and check ..until find the problems ..If you find no problem along the buttons wires..than move on the unit itself..and open it to check for a short circuit between wire that should not suppose to touch ....that's almost all you have to do ...if youdo not find the issue probably internal one in the unit itself ..and probably the fastest fix is to change it ..

I just guided you on the obvious way ...and not just the button ...I said to check all the way ..cause if you remove a wire and the doorbell is stopping ..(i suggest a wire from the doorbell to the button ..but on the unit exit ..) to check if the wires are shorted on the way to the button ...and if it stops than re place the wires...cause the short it is on that way and there is no way to find the actual spot ...if this do not stop it is an issue in the unit itself..and here is another issue ..that's all I suggested..and it was pertinent cause I wasn't aware of your skills and you didn't told me what you have done or well you could answer and move on ...or just get another opinion ..after you provide complete information cause there are no mediums around here ..and there was no obligations to accept the solution know perfectly how the site works could have been patient answer what you have already done .and ask for a second opinion ...from there ..anyway have a great day and take it easy one needs frustrations...

Well, this is a bad news for you. Just think of the damage that electrostatic discharge can do to these electronic devices; how much more the sudden fluctuation of the power lines can do or the electromagnetic interference resulting from the thunderstorm. This is why such electronic devices are strongly recommended to be unplugged when not in use or during thunderstorms and the likes. Unplug the device for several hours to allow the microprocessor to reset. Have it serviced by a qualified technician should the microprocessor doesn't reset after unplugging.

You did NOT answer my question. How do you unplug a doorbell? Are you familiar with the M&S Model MC602? Could the
chime card within the system be the culprit???

I am not referring to the door bell but rather to the system itself. And you are right, the chime card could have gone bad due to the thunderstorms.

  • rfhanson May 14, 2010

Why didn't you say that in the first place? I knew the problem wasn't in the doorbell per se, but didn't know what the specific cause was. After I submitted my question to fixya, I called the company that installed my system 10 years ago, and the serviceman told me it was probably the chime card.

Master Unit M&S System displays REL 5

This actually means RELS which stands for release. There is typically a bad room station that has a broken button, or button stuck. To troubleshoot, remove all black wires from the master unit. Any display of RELS or clicking sound should stop. Add back the black wires one by one until the issue of RELS occurs again. If so, do not attach this wire and hook up all remaining wires. If the user wants to know which room station this is, go from room to room and press the listen button. If the music is muted, the station is good. If the music continues, this is the bad room station. Unfortunately, these room stations are no longer available. Visit our website for replacements parts and products, or if you have more questions.

We have DMC-10RS intercom system in our house. All them squeal when the power source is on. I had to unplug the hub to make them quiet. I cked the power supply and its putting out 12.2V,ok. Any ideas what...

Check power supply for proper voltage of 12 volts DC.
-If there are multiple Hubs, check voltage on all Hubs
If the voltage is not 12V, try replacing the power supply
226888 Power Supply
-If the voltage is ok, disconnect 1 room station at a time. If there a multiple Hubs, disconnect the last Hub. As each room station and/or door station is removed, have someone else listen to see if the squeal goes away. There is a chance that one bad room or door station is causing the issue.
oIf the squealing stops, add in the previous stations that had been disconnected. If all stations other than that room station are ok, do not hook up that station. There are no replacement stations available for this system. If the squealing continues with any of the stations hooked up, there is a bad HUB. DMC-10 Hubs are NLA and cannot be repaired.
