The machines usually thread pretty straight forward. If your machine does not have a visable tension spring next to the lever that goes up and down while stitching...then look at:
and check the Kenmore 1884180....I think that's pretty close to what you have.

actually they dont NOT TO THE WHITE 1886, I whoever is asking, I have the same problem. My own mother, and grandmother who have sown ALL their lives, who make clothes, etc. etc. CANNOT figure out for the life of us all, how to get that thing to load the thread., We get it through the needle, and underneath, And it looks normal, Its what you would do on a normal machine. But when you start, Is when it messes up. I think, they put up for sale because of this error

There are two types, the foot itself is very thin with a groove either side and the other type is the same as above but with an adjuster on the back of it
