SOURCE: broke the pull cord. need to know how to take the

bad engineering - the guard is riveted so you need to pull the whole right side of the casing which means removing three brass bolts. BUt then you will find that the steel housing is in the way so you need to remove the engine from the unit - another four tight bolts and a bit of dismantling a few other connections - a lot of work! Then you need to mess with the spring mechanism!!

I have a 1999 ford explorer and the whole ignition broke off from the inside. Can that be fixed at home? What do I ask for.

Depending on what is broke, you may have to pull the steering wheel to get access to the components. And to pull the wheel you would need a wheel puller kit and disable the air bag.

Harmonic balancer removal. I have nut out but it seems stuck. How do I pull it off. Do I have to remove more than the bolt

Most balancers have a very tight fit to the crank. You will need to use a puller to remove it. If purchasing one dosn't seem economical to you, some auto parts stores rent out specialty tools for free.

I want to change the mechanical oil seal for crank shaft

you need a gear puller to pull the gear off. but to change the seal for the crankshaft, you only remove the timing gear and change the seal on the cover that you removed. there is nor need to pull the gear itself. if you pull the gear, you still can't change any other bearings or seals without removing the heads and manifold.

Steering column spline adapter

You'll need a specialized puller to remove it. You can fabricate one with a pair of vice grips and a regular gear puller. You attatch the gear puller to the back of the adapter and use the vice grips to hold the puller jaws together and slowly pull the adapter off.
