SOURCE: Westinghouse Virtuoso Fridge - Circuit Diagram

If it is kicking the circuit breaker out in defrost mode, then the defrost timer is faulty. It would be best to just replace the timer instead of checking the wiring schematic. Look at www.partstoday.com for helpful illustrations on parts and identifying pictures.

The compressor windings shorting out are usually what trips the breaker. Someone will need to test the windings and if they are defective it will be best to replace the fridge

Fridge keeps tripping the circuit breaker

Unless there is a dedicated circuit of 20 amps to the refrigerator this will continue to happen When your refrigerator goes into defrost and other things like lights fans air conditioners are on the same circuit it will have no choice to not trip the breaker. Try this turn the breaker off and how may thing in your house stop working? You need a 20 AMP circuit or this will possibly damage the compressor or weaken the breaker because it has tripped so many time. Thanks, Please rate my solution, I have done this work for 30 years. Westinghouse 410l fridge trips new RCD's in fusebox

Tripping an earth leakage would indicate a break down of insulation in the windings of the compressor, the possibility of a short circuit in the wiring system or the defrost element down to earth. I recommend you have a certified technician check it out before you have a fire. If the Hoover is in good condition there is no reason not to replace it. Rate me please.

Fridge keeps tripping the circuit breaker

Your fridge should draw no more than 5amp. Presuming your breaker is at least 15amp there's a problem. Move to a different circuit first. If the condition persists check the start relay on the compressor. I have a suspicion the circuit may have another item you are not aware of.

Code actually calls for the refrigerator to be on a separate circuit for this reason. you may have a refrgerator that may have a higher voltage spike at compressor start up and that is causing the trip. You can try upgrading your GFCI to a 20amp (most are 15amp). Although you may have to replace with a standard outlet if the problem does not subside.

It won't be the defrost timer, unusual, it will be the defrost element inside the freezer section behind the back panel or a shorted defrost klixon.
