Question about Troy Bilt Tb320bv Spring Assist Blower/Vac

Open Question

My TB320BV will only run with the choke half way on. I have completely disassembled the carb and found no obvious problems. Last year this unit ran very well. I have fresh gas in it as well. It seems to be running way too lean. Is there a high speed mixture adjustment on this carb?

SOURCE: Troybilt TB75SS String Trimmer will only run choked

I was having the same problem I replaced the spark plug and cleaned the exhaust a bit. Mine had an adjustment screw on the carburetor (facing up) and I adjusted it while it was idling with full choke. When I screwed it IN (down) it increased the throttle ... I went too far and the engine raced a bit but continued to run (roughly) after releasing the choke. I turned off the engine and backed out the screw a bit and restarted. It seemed to idle normally and then I was able to slowly increase the throttle and the engine run. I noticed that there was air in the gas lines and figured it could be because I only had little gas in the tank. I put the plastic housing (with air filter) back on, filled the tank half full and restarted. I still ran roughly for a bit but I was able able to slowly increase my throttle until it reached half power and then it ran fine. I went ahead and did 30 minutes worth of trimming and it was like new. I will see if starts and runs ok from cold but at least it ran today. I had not seen anyone mentioning the adjustment screw.

If you haven't taken that carb apart and cleaned it in awhile - more than likely your jets (what's used to pick the gas up out of the bottom of the carb (the bowl) are clogged up. You can pick up a can of carburetor cleaner with a wire basket inside from any major parts store specifically for carburetors to soak in. The size of a paint can & around $20. Soak the carb in that for awhile after disassembling, make sure none of your ports are clogged - air compressor gun or you can also use keyboard cleaner - air dusters. You want to verify that air can pass through all those ports properly and blowing air through them is how you do it. Carb does need to be completely disassembled to do this. The jets in the carb suck up fuel due to the vacuum the engine creates turning over. Once it starts spinning - it builds up a little suction and everything is fine. When the jets start to clog - one of the ways to force the carb to pull harder is to work the choke. The only thing that choke is doing is operating the butterfly. When the choke is on - the butterfly closes. Making all of that suction stay right there in the carb. Once the bike starts to warm up - you release the choke - and the butterfly will open - allowing more air into the system. You're running at half choke - butterfly half closed - to force those jets to pull harder. If they were clear? No need to run at half choke. I have a Intek Twin 24 ohv engine. It will only run smooth if the choke is half open. If the choke if fully opened, the engine is unsmooth and revs high to low by itself. I tried cleaning the carb but...

I had problems with my 20hp v twin. The fuel was the problem.I stopped using fuel with ethanol.Problem solved. My 60 hp Evinrude had the same problem.Ethanol was responsible for eating away gaskets and o-rings.This stuff also eats away at some aluminum carbs. Thanks congress for voting to add this **** to our fuel.Wish you would pick up the repair bills too.

My ariens snowblower only works in the choke position. once i turn it where it sould be it stalls

had same problem with a small 2 cycle outboard motor last year. I had run it during the summer, put it away for the winter and when I went to fire it up the following Spring it would only run with half to full choke. Old fuel had gummed up the carburater by letting it sit in there for a few months, had to disassemble and clean all the carb parts (including the jets) and it worked good as new. You could do it yourself or take carb to a small engine repair shop and have them do it. May or may not require a rebuild kit depending on how gummed up it is. Hope this helps.

FL1500LE will only run with choke and throttle both 1/2 on.

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

You willneed to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner.Makesure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to see daylightthrough it.)

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance on:
1. Fuel line replacement or
2. Carburetor kit replacement

Just let me know.

Trouble starting gas trimmer

Yes. It sounds like you need to clean the carburetor. Take the carb. off, disassemble and spray with carb. cleaner. Make sure to clean the small screen in carb. Clean the small portals with a Den Tek Brush, (used for cleaning between teeth). They work great for this job. Reassemble carb. and try starting. If this doesn't cure the problem then you will need to buy a new carb. kit and replace the needle valve, gasket(s), diaphragm, & small screen.

Homelite gas trimmer will not run without half choke and throttle

You need to disassemble the carb. and spray with carb. cleaner. If you need tips on how to do this, just let me know. You may need a new carb. kit as well, but we won't know that until you first perform the first step, or if the carb. parts are more than 3 years old. If they are, then go ahead and buy the carb. kit and replace the parts.

You need to rebuild the carburetor. You will need to go to an outdoor power & equipment store of some kind to get a carburetor kit for your specific trimmer. It will come with various gaskets, (some of which you won't use), a needle valve, and a small screen that goes in the carb. Replace all old parts with new. New primer bulb is sold seperately. When you have the carb. apart, you will also need to clean the small ports with a Den Tek Brush (used for cleaning teeth). Use carb. cleaner when cleaning.

It sounds like your carburetor needs a good cleaning. You must disassemble the carb., clean all the ports with a small Den Tech Brush, (used for cleaning between teeth). They are very small and perfect for this job. You will also want to clean the small screen in the carb. It may be so clogged that it may need to be replaced. If this is the case, you will need a carb.kit for your Troybilt Trimmer; it comes with small parts and gaskets. (It will come with some gaskets that you will not need.) Replace all old parts with the new ones. This should fix your problem.
