Question about Kenmore 13773 Stainless Steel Dishwasher

1 Answer

Rattling sound while running

When the washer is running there is a rattling sound. Don't know if it is from the pump or the motor.
The model of the washer is 17732 but couldn't find that model # in the list.
It is not the stainless steel model.

What fuse controls the washer fluid pump?

On some older cars the washer motor circuit is tied into the wiper circuit, so the large fuse or relay for the wipers also controls the washer motor.
Don't know about your car, but you could take the connector off your washer motor and check for power there, when someone holds the washer pump switch on, and key on.

My 2000 Nissan xterra started shaking while idling and the service engine light came on. I changed the oil and it feels better. It doesnt knock In neutral or park. It also rattles till you hit about 30...

Also- the rattle is most likely the valve lifters. The lifters on this engine and the model previous (I have owned both to 180k miles or more) lose pressure when the motor is off. They re-pressureize with engine oil after the motor starts and tap a little until they "pump up" to full size. Just don't drive until the rattle dies down and as long as it is under 30 seconds or so- you will be fine there.

Fridgeair dishwasher not working making loud sound. water comes in and I can make it drain out but washer does not start

Hello

bearings in the heater fan may get worn out or rust. If this happens, it may become very noisy, either grinding on the bearings, or scraping against the rust. If this happens you need to replace the fan motor. Sometimes, a fan blade may come loose, and you need to replace it.
Sometimes it's the motor that makes the noise you hear. The motor has bearings in it which may become worn or get rusty. When the bearings get worn, they allow the shaft to wobble which can get quite loud. If there is a spin seal leak, water may get inside the motor, washing the bearing grease away. If the spin seal is leaking, you'll notice water leaking from under the dishwasher. There is also a disc attached to the top of the motor called a slinger. It sometimes breaks off and spins around the motor's shaft while it turns, causing some noises. You will need to replace the motor if the bearings are bad. You also need to replace the motor if the slinger is broken as well.

Newer dishwashers may make a squealing or rattling noise on the first run. This is because it has not had any water in it yet, and the motor seals are dry. You may hear this in a unit that hasn't been run in a week or more as well. You should operate the dishwasher regularly to keep the sump water from getting smelly, and to keep the seals lubricated. You can add a quart of water to the sump before running it.

Rattling noises may be produced by dishes rattling inside the dishwasher due to the water pressure from the sprayer arms on the dishes. To determine if the rattling is a loading issue, run the unit empty. If the sound is persistent, it may be that there is debris in the pump.

dishwasher water-inlet valves are noted to make a hum that lasts about 60-90 seconds several times during a washing cycle. This hum is a different hum than the sound of the motor running.

A rhythmic knocking or thumping sound may be caused the sprayer arms hitting something as they go around and around. Rearrange the dishes and resume the wash.

A clunking or clanking may be heard when the detergent cup opens; while a clicking sound may be produced by the timer or electronic control panel.

A solenoid makes a snap sound when it opens. This happens about six times during each load.

Pipes rattling or banging may be caused by a water hammer effect. Water hammer sounds are caused by a valve closing in the system, and yet the water in the pipe is still flowing because of its kinetic energy. The sound is caused by the water slamming into the closed section of pipe. A plumber can install an anti-hammer device.

Small objects can sometimes get stuck in the pump. When this occurs, you'll need to open the pump and then remove the item that is making the noise or replace the pump. The dishwasher pump is usually mounted directly to the motor and runs off the motor as well. The pump is also attached to the bottom of your dishwasher.

Whirlpool Top Loader Stopped working mid-cycle & rattling

It sounds like you have a broken motor coupling. If you manually advance the dial does it drain? The washer is a direct drive model that uses an electric drive motor to run the gearcase (transmission) and the drain pump. Even with the coupler broken (and worse-case scenario - the gearcase) the washer will still drain due to the way it is designed.

If the washer will fill and drain, but won't agitate or spin, this is usually a sign that the motor coupling has broken. The noise of the motor engaging, rattling noises, lack of agitation and ability to still drain are other common symptoms. This is a common fail item with this model washer through normal wear and tear. Newer versions of the coupler are more resilient and resist breaking. The following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

The motor coupling is located between the drive motor and the transmission and takes the place of a drive belt. They do wear out and can break. The replacement part number is included in the link I provided and is an improved upgraded coupling that is more resilient. It should last longer.

A replacement coupler can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11. Just use the part number in the link and "Search by Part Number" for your search criteria.
If you confirmed that the washer will not drain, you could have a pump that has something caught in it. The drain on these washers on have one moving part - the impeller. If something gets caught in it, the pump will not drain. You can access the pump by following this link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397094-replacing_water_pump

Use the steps in the link provided to access the drain pump and remove the hoses to check inside the pump for any foreign objects (underwires from bras, undergarments and panty hose are common items). If the wash tub is still full of water an easy way to drain it with no mess is to use a wet/dry shop vac to pull the water from the tub. Simple gravity works too by removing one of the drain hoses, but is not recommended if the washer is in your home. These wash tubs have a 35 gallon capacity. If you have no shop vac and cannot risk allowing the washer to drain by pulling one of the drain hoses, you need to bail.

If the pump is defective, the part number is 3363892 and can be purchased at appliancepartspros.com for about $42.

If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

LG WM-2277HB washer does not drain and make rattling noise.

I would guess that the impeller has come off the pump motor shaft. You can disassemble and push it back on, but it will come off again. I don't know if some type of adhesive would work, but I just replace the pump motor.
Drain water from small drain hose (or by removing filter) Remove the screw in the plastic recess by the filter, then use a putty knife on the left or right side to pop out the recess. Remove two more screws holding pump body to front frame of washer. Pull washer about 18 inches away from wall and tilt it back to lean against wall to allow access to the pump through the large rectangular hole in the base of the washer. There is a plastic locking tab holding the pump body to the plastic washer base, but don't worry if you break that, as the screws (removed earlier) will hold the pump back on just fine. Pump motor is held onto pump body with three more screws. Replace pump motor with a new one and reassemble. On a difficulty scale of 1 -10, this one might rate a 4.5 or a 5. Not too bad.

Leaking is rarely, if ever, caused by the drain pump. Small leaks can come from using too much soap, which backs up in the dispenser area and leaks down inside the machine, or larger leaks from a cut in the door gasket.
