the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

You can try cleaning the laser lens with a cd / dvd lens cleaner cd.
This usually doesn't work, your problem is 98% of the time caused by a Sony defect in the blu-ray drive itself.
The drive will gradually get worse and worse.
If your system is under warranty then by all means get it repaired by Sony for free otherwise you're looking to pay $150 for Sony to repair their own mistake.
You can reach them @ 1-800-345-SONY
They'll probably suggest another System Restore, Firmware update and a 100 other solutions that won't work because it's hardware related.
Sorry for the bad news.

try doing a factory reset but be warned resetting it deletes all data and restores it back to factory default this should correct the software glich that is causing your ps3 to freez or lock up
1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.
2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.
3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format.. You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn’t detected after initial reset

you could try replacing the blu ray lens on the drive. you can get one at www.thegamersfix.com . sounds like if its reading dvds the blu ray laser could be dead, make sure your careful replacing it not to get it dirty or scratched and get the correct model. they have some videos on youtube of people doing it. the other tricky part is aligning the drive once its back together. otherwise ebay has new drives and you could send it back to sony and they'll charge you for the repair.

This is normally because the laser on the drive is slightly off. The good thing is that you can fix this yourself it is quite simple.
Or of course you can send it in to be fixed it is up to you.
If you send it in you will have to pay out about $130 to get it fixed.
