Question about Whirlpool GU2700XTSB / GU2700XTSQ / GU2700XTST Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

Dishwasher leaving gritty debris on glasses, cups and plates.

Had a techniciaan clean the chopper out. Had a couple of balled up labels and a couple of fruit seeds. Ran normal cycle and still having problem with grittiness on glasses and bowls in top rack. Did a test to make sure the arm was turning and it was. Water temperature is very, very hot. Any ideas. Very frustrated. Purchased this in Octover 2007.

Make sure not to prewash your dishes before you put them in the machine. The water needs to be dirty to activate the enzymes in the detergent. Are the dishes coming out cloudy? Also a sign of prewashing your dishes. Use only powder detergent and clean your machine by running 2 cups of vinegar on hottest cycle once a month. No gel and no tabs. They cause a build up in the unit and causes poor performance. Use rinse aid. Hope this helps.

another not necessarily cheaper, but definitely more effective way to descale just about any cleaning system is to run CLR through it. used it on carpet cleaning systems as a replacement for industrial descaler. works just as good and is much more accessible

My dishwasher is not cleaning properly. It leaves dirty gritty water which sticks to glasses cups etc
Run a product called "CLR" through the washer, that should do the trick, you may need to repeat it once a month. You can get this at any Hardware store throughout the USA.

Glass plates have "splashed" looking
First perform a vinegar cycle wash in the dishwasher. Pour a cup of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher. Keep the temperature at the highest setting possible and perform a wash cycle.Then start using a dishwasher most probably that would solve the problem. If this does not solve the problem then there must be some parts worn out or faulty creating the problem.

There are many probable causes of failure .

To clean the dishes the water temperature is essential.It the water is not hot then the dishes will not be cleaned properly.So check the water temperature.

Also check the filter in your dishwasher.Clean the filter if there is accumulation of debris in the filter

If you are in an hard water zone , then try reducing the amount of detergent used and then try cleaning the dishes.

I have a whirlpool diswasher. The dishes in the top rack do not come clean. Also I can see gritty sandy matter on the glasses and inside of the diswasher walls. I use the r inse agent.
Rise Aid is good to use however it sounds like you have another issue. Here are a few steps you can take to get your Dishwasher working:
  1. Check to see if your getting water to the top rack. Test this by runing a cycle and open the door and place a cup right-side up. Close the door. It should fill the cup up to the top with in 20 seconds. If it does you have to clean out your dishwasher with a cleaner like Dishwasher Magic.
  2. If the cup doesn't fill to the top then you have a circulation problem. Either your not getting enough water Or the filter in the pump is clogged. Water should cover the bottom of the dishwasher tub and then just reach the float.
  3. If your going to clean the filter/chopper you need to take out the racks and tube and sprays. And then take the screws out of the top. You have one screw for the filter/chopper housing take this off and clean it. Pull the blade forward and up. Do the reverse to install it should just stamp back on the bearing.

Thanks for using FixYa. You’ll need to check down the edge of the door seal, see if there is a lot of "gunk" there, this would cause grey marks on laundry. Try these steps--

You'll have to do a few maintenance washes to clear it out of the tub. Try these steps to remove the dirt, debris and odor from the washer—

  1. Set your machine to 60 degree wash.
  2. Now add 1/2 a cup of Washing Soda or 4 cups of baking soda Crystals and run the machine with no clothes in it.
  3. Your drain will sparkle, and it will remove all the debris, lint & mold growth from the drain pump and drain filter. Also the mold from the door seal will be cleared
  4. Add 1 desert spoonful of Washing Soda to every wash... I sprinkle it along the crease in the door seal.
  5. Clean the fabric softener cup with a rag first, (bleach will not break up fabric softener as it is introduced in the rinse cycle with the fabric softener.
  6. Also check the drain hose, it should not be clogged.

This will clean your machine and get rid of the gritty material in the bottom.

Dishes don't come out clean grit feel to them
Not knowing the make and model of your dishwasher makes it hard to be specific. But, depending on its age, your problem may be debris blocking both the holes in the wash arms and the filter that is beneath the lower wash arm.

Inspect the wash arm holes and get them all cleaned out.

Remove the screws that hold what ever filter assembly that lives beneath the lower wash arm. Use a flashlight to inspect the entire sump area, looking for debris. Inspect the impeller down there, making sure it can spin freely and is not damaged

Reassemble and test. Run a short cycle empty and wait for the dishwasher to fill and begin to wash. Open the door and pour in up to 2 cups of white vinegar. When the DW drains, inspect the inside and see if you want to add more vinegar the next cycle _after_ the washer refills and begins to wash or rinse.

Run a load of dirty dishes and check for cleaning improvement. If you still have problems, the wash pump/motor assembly will need to be replaced.

My dishwasher is not washing dishes on the top rack...
HI,

The top rack is not cleaning because of low water pressure from the wash motor to the upper spray arm.
Assuming the top spray arms are clear of debris, remove the lower spray arm to access the wash motor. Remove the 4 torx screws and the filter (accumulator assembly). Remove the torx screw and the inlet protector that covers the chopper assembly. Make sure the chopper is not broken (broken chopper will fill with debris and block water flow). While holding the chopper blade, reach inside the "D" shaped opening on top of the motor and spin the wheel/motor by hand in each direction to make sure either the chopper gear or the motor gear that drives the chopper is not broken. Replace the chopper if necessary . If the motor gear is broken, replace the sump and motor assembly . Remove any debris from the sump area in the process.
You don't have to shut the power off to the dishwasher because the door will be open, but if you feel more comfortable, do so.

Maytag Quiet Series 300/Dishwasher leaving gritty stuff on dishes
My model is simillar Cheri's. Every couple years I have to remove the plastic spray bars. They are held on by a simple torque screw. Once removed you will see debris plugging many of the holes. I have found this on all 4 of my spray bars. This debris prevents the right amount of water in the wash and rinse cycles. The upper spray bars seem to be the worse. This explains the trouble most folks have with glasses in the upper rack. Also check the docking station. You will fiind it along the back wall of your unit. The plastic tubes on the backside of each rack will slide into a hole in the docking station. After a few years the rubber seal in the docking station will be worn away. Once this happens, it prevents the correct water pressure to the upper rack. The replacement part snaps into place and cost about $25.
