Question about Tecumseh Lawn Boy Push Mowers Insight Silver Powered Series - Sens - A - Speed Walk Behind Mower - 10685

2 Answers

I own the 10685, mowed 6 times this year and on the 7th out of nowhere it developed a problem. Primed as usual, starts, runs about 30 seconds, quits. If I catch it in time I can hit the primer again and it will continue to run, again only for a few seconds. Pulled the bowl, blew out the 3 holes in the bowl nut, reassembled the bowl, same thing. Replaced the air filter, and plug, same thing. pulled the carb, blew it out, checked air flow, and gas feed lines for any gum, installed new needle (blew the needle seat out with the air hose, could not find it) seat and spring. Checked the carb for flow and cut off, all is working well, reinstalled the bowl, no change. The carb was clean with the exception of a little gummy strings. The gas is new. If I hold the governor open a little to a higher RPM it will run longer but will still starve out for gas. I'm wondering if it could be the air feed coming from the engine that supplies the carb with the pressure. I cant test it for air flow if the engine isn't running. That seems to be the next step to eliminate. Am I barking up the rite tree? what could it be/

Hi,
Just a suggestion O.K?
Carefully check the small fuel lines. To and from the bulb. Make sure the bulb fills with gas.( at least two thirds full. ) There is a small fuel filter on the end of a small fuel line in the tank. A small hook of stiff wire will dig that out. Good luck !!!!

I own this same one. Mine stalls out after a few secs if I don't have the mulch plug all the way engaged. It's worth checking to make sure before messing around with bigger stuff.

My craftsman 6.5 starts and stalls like there is fuel delivery problem, i dont know how to get the engine cover off, it runs for a moment after primed then quits i have never had a problem with this mower

Most likely the carb is running out of fuel and not refilling fast enough. Check fuel lines first. Sometimes they break down and can cause blockages in the line. Second, the fuel cap has a vent hole. This hole can get easily blocked with dirt and grim that goes along with lawn mowing. If air cant get in the tank to replace the fuel consumed it causes a vacuum in the tank and fuel starvation.

Strange fuel pump issue on FXCW.

High pressure feed from the pump in the tank is rubber and the E20 fuel damages the rubber making it porous so pressure cannot build up to supply the injectors.

Hi, I have a John Deere Z225 with an 18.5 Briggs

Although, this does sound like a fuel issue due to past experiences I want to say the problem might not be fuel at all, but before we go that route try one thing. On that particular model I believe the gas cap is vented, if so try running it till it acts up, then remove the gas cap for a moment and see if the engine returns to running normal, if not I believe your coil is going out. I have seen alot of these engines recently where the works fine but when the get hot they quit functioning all together or only function part of time which in your case would indicate why it is missing and fowling the plug. When these tend to do this after they cool back down they function properly again until they get heated up again. I hope this helps you.

94 camry won't start after running out of gas?

Fuel injected vehicles will need to be primed when they run out of gas. Your going to have to turn the key on then off at least twenty times leaving it on for five seconds. You may need a half to full tank of gas to get the pump to prime. Another way is to get some carb cleaner, and while an assistant is cranking the vehicle, spray one second then quit for a second then repeat and get the car to start that way and just keep it up until it runs rougher or smoothens out, and let it idle for at least a minute to purge the air out of the system. The key is easier, unless you can figure the relay and bypass the relay to run the pump for at least 30 seconds. That should get it running again.

Stalling

I have same mower and just fixed what seems like a similar problem description. I had gone down the fuel system route and the symptoms just didn't add up. Stopped abruptly w/o sputtering once I reached warm-up temp. Replaced the solid state ignition (34443C now part number 3444D). Problem corrected and just mowed my 1/3rd acre w/ no issues.

Mower will not stay running

Sounds like a lack of fuel. If it has a briggs motor replace fuel pump diaphram in carb.
