That's usually about right you can use three or four depending on dirtiness of laundry, but as a general rule od thumb just barely enough to get clothes clean.

Too much soap or wrong kind of detergent if HE washer. Run the washer empty with 2 tsp of cooking oil. The soap will attatch itself to the oil and remove the excess detergent residue.

Start a load of laundry, & a few mins later it stops & says sud. It done it about 4 times. Tried smaller loads, & same outcome.

I am assuming that you are using a HE front loading washer. If this is the case, there are two or three possible causes:

1. Using too much soap (use the lowest soap line on your HE detergent);
2. Using incorrect soap (must be HE)
3. There might be something in the load that contains soap or contaminants that is causing the correct soap to act irregularly.

Try running a bleach-only load with no soap. It might take several loads to correct the condition; I occasionally have this problem on my Duet.

I have a Kenmore HE 2 plus model 110 front-load washer purchased 11/2006. It makes a rubbing sound when the drum turns. Everything else seems to be working properly, but I am afraid to use the washer for...

Run a few washes without soap. You may be using to much detergent. The machine only uses a gallon of water. You put much soap in there and that puppy will growl like grizzly bear. Only a tiny amount of soap is all you need or bad things are going to happen. You seeing any brown stains on your clothes? That is a sign of a bad bearing.fc42036.jpg

Machine fills 3/4 full of water and then leaks out the door. Repairman says it is the water control valve (this will be the third repair in 3 years. using less that tsp of he soap and the problem still...

Yes this correct. Install a recetional vehicle water filter for both hot and cold.
Price is $20.99 each Less than the service call and valve. Try just using cold water and buy one I am sure you will agree it was a good investment and you can't go wrong for $21 and 10 minunets of unscrewing the hose and screwing the filter on the hose your self (make sure it is tight and does not leak. You clothes will wash better too.

Water not heating up

Moldy smell is most certainly due to left over soap residue and body oils that accumulate between the outer and inner tubs. This happens when there is an oversudsing issue and the extra soap does not breakdown properly. Be sure to use an HE (high efficiency) detergent and do not use too much. 2-3 tablespoons is all that is required. To clean the problem you now have you can use Whirlout (available at Home Depot by the hot tubs). Just use one capful in and empty load with hot water cycle. Repeat once a month to keep your unit fresh and clean. Note, even when selecting a cold cycle the unit will add hot water if needed to make the water at least 78 degrees F. This is to allow the HE soap to break down properly. A problem with your hot water (or the heater) could also cause the soap to not break down and operate efficeintly.

Visible water level in front-load clothes washing machine?

Yes, it is normal. There is water in the machine. One of the big draws for this style machine is that they use much less water than top load machines. If you stopped the cycle and opened the door, dug down in the clothes, you would find water. The machine fills a small amount of water (below the level of the door) and tumbles. As the water is absorbed by the clothing, the water level drops, so the machine adds more to maintain the water level. This is basically how the washer figures out how big your clothes load is and how much water that load needs. (Of course most sales persons at the big box stores and Sears have no idea how this works)
If you'd like, try running a cycle with no clothes to see how much water is in the machine. (It's not a lot) Now remember this: Because there is so much less water use than a top load machine, you must cut way way way back on the amount of soap and fabric softener used. Use no more than one tablespoon of HE (High Efficiency) soap (even less if it is 2x or 3x concentrate) and one teaspoon of fabric softener per load !!!!!
This should be a Fix-Ya for your question. Thanks.

Greetings tammym545,

Generally an EFO error on a front load machine is caused by using too much soap, or the wrong type of soap. Ensure you are using HE (High Efficiency) soap in your front loader. HE soaps are specially formulated front loading units to be low sudsing, which is essential to a front loader.

Thank you,

Smell on towels

It's good that you are using HE detergent but you're probably using way too much. To test this run the washer empty (no soap) and if you see bubbles inside that's left over soap that's still in the unit. If so, keep running it empty until the bubbles are gone then start using only about 1 tablespoon of soap per load. The washer uses about 1/10 of the water so you need to use 1/10 of the soap. Use the same amount of softner. The excess soap and softner build up in the unit and cause the smell.
