Question about Cycling

1 Answer

I have a spinnersport spin bike and as soon as I turn the resistence knob more than two or three times the wheel completely stops and the pedals are locked like I pushed down to stop the bike. I have already tried lubricating the resistance knob what else can I do?

The adjustment maybe in pad mechanism and not the knob. Observe the pad movement while turning the knob usually their is a cable tension adjustment on the pad arm.

I hav an edge 426 magnetic bike an there is no resistance/tension. how do i correct this?

Hi There, does this machine adjust resistance with a turn knob or via electronic buttons? If it's a crank or turn style resistance adjustment, this is usually positioning a pair of magnets near a spinning disk inside that front cover. Electrical "magnetic" resistance units use an Eddy-Current brake system which also produces a magnetic field near the spinning disk, either way the magnetic attraction properties will stop any metal (conductive) disk from spinning, or at least provide a resistance to it spinning ;o) Crank tension units have a cable and pulley system inside. Good Luck

I have a bike that there is no resistance when paddling.

if this is a stationary bike, look on the wheel for a hand operated knob that has a roller on the tire itself.. this is a tensioner..it will need tightened up..the tighter you go the more resistance you get.the new ones use electronic braking system..dont now how it adjusts except by the control module..

Life gear exercise bike

This bike looks to be of the Lemond Revmaster series.

first, dial the resistance knob back until the leather break pad is no longer touching the flywheel. Get down on the floor and postion yourself between the flywheel and pedal cranks. Slowly turn the cranks arms and listen and feel for a roughness in the bike.

This has bike has bearings and a belt. It should not make any noise.

Now with the right pedal at a 2:00 position tighten the resistance knob down all the way so the flywheel will not turn. Then get on and push very hard on the right pedal. If the belt is loose, the pedal will move. Austin Fitness Rentals Rent Commercial grade Fitness Equipment in... ">

What are the different resistances on exercise bikes?

There are three main types of resistances, the fan resistance used to provide resistance with air they push as you pedal. The second type is the belt resistance which uses a belt that runs through a brake providing resistance for the exercise bikes. The third type is the magnetic exercise bike which provides resistance which can easily be adjusted while riding the bike.

I cant get the tention right what numbers should the 3 knobs be ever three or 4 stitchs are slack or all of them i dont no what knob is for the top stitchs and which is the under neath

Forget the three knobs for tension adjustment, only the top tension knob should be about 4 or 5, you should be able to pull the bottom thread through on the bobbin with slight resistence, if it is too tight slacken the screw on the bobbin case anti clockwise about a quarter of a turn, pattern selectors stitch length and width work independently of the tensions.

No change in resistance

IF you have the one i have, there is a knob with two connected arrows and a plus and minus sign. turn toward the plus, more resistance, turn toward the minus, less resistance.

The tension adjustment does not get difficult enough

If you are refering to a regular bicycle this means the derailer is not making the chain jump from gear to gear. You probably need a new shifter cable or the shifter cable came unhooked from the derailer. I would take your bike to a bike shop to have this reconnected and then they will adjust it for you.

If you are refering to an exercise bike then here may be your solution. From what I have seen on exercise bikes there are three different kind of bikes. I am refering to how there resistance works.

First type has a strap that wraps around the wheel. There is a some kind of a nut and a bolt that holds that strap around the wheel. You simply need to tighten that nut. The strap will stretch over time and that is why you do not have the same resisteace you had when the bike was new. Afer you tighten this you will find that regular tensioner works better.

The Second type of exercise bike has what appears to be brake pads contacting the wheel. Basically your peddaling the bike with the brakes on. Pretty simple concept. Again there should be some sort of adjustment around this pad that is touching the wheel. Probably a screw or a bolt. Some even have adjusters that you can turn with your fingers.

The new and improved exercise bikes have what is called magnetic resistance. This is where your resitance is created by a magnet and some sort of power source such as batteries or your bike being plugged into a wall outlet. If you are using batteries replace them. I found that with my elyptical exerciser new batteries made a world of difference in the resistance settings. If changing the batteries doesn't help then there may be another problem. This could be the computer. Just check your user manual and I am sure you can get it replaced.
