My heavy duty washer filled up then stopped working

I have a kenmore heavy duty extra large capacity washer model # 13212200. At first the washer would stop right before it should be entering spin cycle. It would operate again when I manualy selected spin. This whent on for about a week. Then when it would get to the first little upside down u shaped thing (agitator I gues) it would stop until I opened and closed the lid. This only lasted a few days then all it did was fill up and thats it. It would not drain or anything. What could possible be wrong?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.13212200&pathTaken=partSearch

and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

It's likely the the switch was going bad and finally stopped working. following is the easiest test.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

I have a stackable kenmore washer dryer heavy duty extra large capacity 2 speed motor. The dryer has been making squeeling noise and has stopped toumbling around what can the problem be.

Could be the belt which connects motor and dryer drum. Could be the drum support rollers. Replace both either way -- common problem.

Kenmore heavy duty extra large capacity washer will not drain or spin. model #13212200

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If it neither drains nor spins, the first thing to check is the Lid Switch. This prevents the machine from draining and spinning if the lid is open.

I assume that you cannot hear the motor trying to turn.

See the following for how to access the console and Lid Switch connection.

Kenmore heavy duty 70 series extra capacity

This could be from a few things. First test. Turn on the washer to fill it up about 3/4 the way. Now turn it back off. Does the water stop? No? You probably have a bad water valve. Replace it. Yes? Listen for the sounds of running water or look for water on the floor. Do you see/ hear this? Yes? Your pressure hose has probably come off, reattach it. If it does turn off and there is not further sounds or leaking water, you probably need to replace your pressure switch.
