Question about Maxtor OneTouch II external hard drive 500GB 7,200 RPM - FireWire & USB (E04W500)
My OneTouch4 had 1 screw on the bottom next to the serial number. I removed that screw then very carefully pried the case open. Once open remove the 4 screws that hold the hold the 4 rubber pads on the drive. Also remove the very small screws that hold the metal case together then "carefully"slide the metal case off. You must remove the 2 small screws hold the small PCB to the front of the drive and move the PCB out of the way while sliding the metal case off.

It's a pain but you can do it if you are careful. Remove 2 screws on back panel, then gently remove back panel. Now work on side/front panel (one piece) GENTLY. They have little plastic clips that will pop out if you are careful. The you can remove 2 more screws on side that hold metal halves together. Top comes of clamshell style. Good luck !
