Question about Dell Inspiron 3800 Celeron 500MHZ Processor (CPU) - 569KW

No boot at all

Dell Inspiron 3800 won't boot with or with out battery. No noise at all, lights come on for a few seconds then back off. With battery installed after the lights go back off, the charging light stays on. I had one latitude that did this and it was the RAM but I've tried 4 different sticks of PC100 that work in other Dells I have.

Hey i had the same problem but i am only 15 years old. Just becuse i'm little does not mean i dont know much about computers. i tried many things and i have found a solution that works for me. Hopefully it will work for you.i first unplugged all peripherals and accessories including the ac charger plug. Then carefully push back the battery lock switch and remove the battery. Since the battery light on the laptop flashes and stays lit i thought the battery is not fully charged or not instaledd properly. So then you remove the battery. Then you plug in the ac charger cable again and power it on. A few messages might appear and starting windows normally is what you should do. Now the sart-up screen should apear and you should be alright. You should re-install a cpoy of your windows though just to be safe. Hope this helps.

Could be a variety of hardware issues ... if you have a modem card remove it first ... leave the battery out as it is not required to operate the laptop as long as you have ac power ... leave all the ram chips out as most laptops have some ram built in ... remove the harddrive and any other internal drives ... also disconnect anything external ... network printers etc... after that yopu are into removing the keyboard and disconnecting the video ...but it gets a bit complicated if you have never worked on laptops before...

One bad lead will cause your computer to shut down or continue in a cycle
replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to your hard drive
hope this helps

Caqn i put a 700Mhz Dell Pentium III in the same

No, you cannot exchange them. I was not able to determine what socket your notebook uses, but the 500 Mhz mobile Celeron was only available in two formats. One was Socket 495, which has no Pentium III processors available (only Celeron). The other is BGA2, which is not a socket at all, but is soldered onto the motherboard and is thus virtually unremovable.

Laptop will not power up!

If you have replaced the motherboard I would say it is most likely the CPU. If you had not replaced the m/board I would think it was one of the power chips on the board that sends power to the cpu. If the heat sink compound had turned to dust on the top of the cpu that is certainly not going to help with cooling the cpu down. $500 sounds awful pricey for a CPU. What type and speed is it? May be able to dig one up for you in the basement that will work. At least for testing purposes. Post your type and speed of cpu that will work in your laptop.

No power

This might work. Unplug the power cord connected to the back of the PC. Press & hold the start button on the PC case for ten seconds. Reconnect the power cord & try starting the PC. Still no power. Connect the power cord from the PC directly to a wall jack. (No power strips). Still no power? Possible the power supply went bad.
