IF IT IS UNDER WARRRANTY SEND IT IN!
Otherwise, try booting up into "diagnotics menu" and restore your filer system. (vids are online) If this doesn't help then you need a new Bluray laser and here is help in finding wich one.
http://www.ps3laser.com/ps3-laser-compatibility-chart/

Your model number will be on teh back left on the console and will begin with CECH

NOTE: If you own a "fat" PS3, you ALWAYS want to play it standing up on end and never flat. The chips face downward and you are constantly batteling heat

Ps3 wont read games or dvds what should i do?

I HOPE EVERYONE READS THIS AS IT'S LIKELY A (FREE) SOLUTION TO YOUR WOES.

My ps3 recently conked out on me and the local game store (and the internet) told me it was a broken laser.

I told them that I couldn't play video games, not even ps2 games. They still said it was a broken laser.

When I found out it would be 140 bucks to have it replaced and installed I decided to just download some demos.

HERE'S WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING.

I went on the playstation network (psn) and downloaded a game demo, installed it, and played it. When I quit out of the demo, the laser was reading and I could play games!

When I turned off the system and tried again the next day, again it didn't work.

I followed the same process. Went into a downloaded game, this time quit right after the demo loaded, and sure enough, the laser was working again!

Every time I quit a game I have to follow this process, but every time it works, too.

So again:

1. download and install a psn game or game demo
2. put the disc of the game you want to play
3. load the psn game or demo as if you were going to play it
4. quit the demo as soon as you get to the start menu of it
5. go and play the game you wanted to, sucka, cause it works now!!!

I hope this works for you, and if it does, spread the word!

PS3 wont play blue ray or PS3 game discs

Please check the region code on the BD or DVD. It should match the region code set in the system. Otherwise the disc will not play

3.0 Killed my PS3

Sounds like the laser diode burned out. If your under warranty send it in. If not you could buy a replacment and install it yourself.

Playstation 3 wont read some cds or play downloaded demos.

I'm also having this problem as well, it has to do with the OS and it is corrupted. It seems like the "Game mode" has been corrupted preventing us from playing games on the hard drive or reading games.
