"Sound" happy? Was it a rattle IN the engine? Or are you just cleaning where the chain and clutch/sprocket and bar are? There's usually 2 nuts that hold that cover on and an adjustment screw for chain tension facing forward. If it's a newer model that has a kick back/brake on it, it might just be that you have to pull the handle back to release the brake. It's a band that goes around the clutch (inside the cover).

1st add fuel/oil mix to fuel tank , then top off oil tank with bar oil , place saw down on flat surface , press 'ON" button above trigger handle to ON (its marked on case) then pull out blue choke handle till it clicks and stays out , press primer bulb with thumb 8 to 10 times bulb will become harder to press as it fills carb , push chain brake forward (on) ` place left hand on top of saw and right hand on start cord , hold saw down firmly and pull cord vigorsly several times till it sort of starts (sound) , squeeze trigger in and pull cord once more , saw should take off running , chain wont move ,walk to wood pile then disengage the chain brake and cut wood , if saw fails to start after this procedure then there must be a fault in saw , consult a exp small engine dealer for repairs

Saw stops when i start cutting 1/2 plywood.

If it actually binds and stops the motor...... it sounds like the motor is bad, the bearings are bad, or the blade is on backwards. If the motor keeps spinning, but the blade stops then the gears are bad or the blade bolt is not tight.

New SKILSAW 5995 used once to cut 1/4 inch plywood, no problem. Several months pass and I went to cut a pine board, the blade touched the wood and stopped. I recharged the batteries and tried again, two...

Did you fully charge both batteries before using them the first time? If not then they may not be able to hold a charge. It sounds to me like the batteries are either dead or defective as obviously the saw now doesn't have the juice to cut the board. If it's still under warranty take it back and get a replacement. Also, how powerful are the batteries? Even an 18V saw will struggle sometimes cutting a 2x4, they just don't have that much power. The plywood is easier to cut obviously.

I bought a ls1016 coupond mitre saw this week. I was cutting cedar 2x6 's today and had a few kick backs. I am building my deck and do not feel safe using the saw after the kick backs. Why as this...

Sounds as if the blade is dull. Or perhaps bent. A dull or bent blade blade will 'grab' the wood, rather than cut it, resulting in binding, or kickbacks.

Solution; replace the blade with a fine-toothed, good quality blade. If the blade is new, then check that the blade is bolted tight on the arbor. If the blade is loose, it can result in kickbacks.

Also, check that all the bolts/fasteners/locking mechanisms on the saw are tight, and in good working order. Sometimes a tool new out-of-the-box will have loose screws/nuts/bolts that need to be tightened up.

Also, when cutting, use a smooth, slow, motion, being sure to give the saw the time it needs to make the cut.

Not cutting through wood. Cuts are diminishing.

Sounds like the wood your cutting through is to hard for your battery powered saw....try one with a cord they work much better, especially for hardwood's.

My guess is the fuel mixture was too lean. Not enough oil. Sorry, but if that's the case, don't worry about getting it apart.

When cutting with my husky 440 16'' the chain catches or stops

It's hard to say. 41CCs should handle a 16" chain reasonably well.
  1. What are you cutting? Hard woods oak and maple are more difficult than pine.
  2. Are you digging in the dogs and trying to force the saw through the wood? Let the saw determine how fast it wants to cut, I rarely engage the dogs on my 359, I let the weight of the saw work for me.
  3. How sharp is your chain? Have the rakers been filed to low?
  4. Is the saw bogging down at speed before contacting the wood?
  5. Your saw was set extremely lean to meet EPA requirements. It is fitted with adjustment limiters also mandated by the EPA. To lean can impact how it performs.
All of these and few not coming to mind effect how fast the saw cuts. This isn't the answer you wanted but it is honest. We would have to see you cut and examine your saw to provide anything better. HTH

Saw will not cut , chain stops turning when chain touches wood

If your saw has a removable sprocket, Check the drive sprocket on the clutch drum. Either the the spline is worn or the drive link on the chain is not properly seated in the sprocket well.
