Need to know more information, is this a electric heater or gas heater. perhaps there is water leaking into the heater connections and the moisture is causing the tripper to break becasue of the water this can be cause by a leaking seal or drip into the heater compartment. make sure all connections are clean and free of debris and moisture

The pump shorts out when heater is put on

Electric spa control?
what do you mean pump shorts out? Are you saying a breaker trips or a GFCI trips?
if so, it has nothing to do with the pump, if it's already running. But once the heater engages and the breaker trips, then you have about heater element.

Wiring schematic for white-westinghouse window air conditioner/heater selector switch

I'm willing to bet that the heater is grounded. Probably burnt up the original switch, heater wasn't getting power, therefore not tripping the breaker. Now the switch works, heater gets power and immediately trips breaker. Unhook the switch and tape the wires, reset breaker and try in heat and cool. If no problems it's likely the heater.

It is possible that the breaker is bad. It is also possible that your water heater is overloading the breaker. It is probably easier to try a new breaker to start with. Unless you are familiar with changing the breaker, call an electrician. Your life is a very valuable asset to you!

As soon as I turn on my heating unit, it trips the breaker. The heating unit will come on and in a matter of a second, it trips the breaker. What's wrong and what can I do?

Heating element short circuited. Or wires to heater may be loosen or short circuited. Check your breaker also. Sometime, due to defective breaker also it happens.

Trips breaker

If it trips the breaker you MUST have an Earth fault and or a short circuit to Neutral/Earth. You must get a Registered Electrician to look at it.

Unit comes on and runs for 5 minutes, the circuit trips off

30 is the correct size breaker for this unit. It sounds like there is a grounding issue going on in the system. Or off of the Thermostat. Something is grounding out causing the switch to trip. Are you running #10 wire to breaker and the unit? If not you will need to increase your wire size
