Question about Compaq Keyboard

1 Answer

Keyboard Problem I installed a keyboard to use with my laptop and then after unplugging it (USB) my laptop keyboard is typing out the characters that are in the little gray squares on the keys. I also noticed the light is on next to "1" (underneath the caplock indicator light). I don't have a manual for this laptop which I bought used. I tried your answer to the key sticking using the function key, but I would have to hold it down for each one. Could you help this laptop illiterate? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

To activate StickyKeys
Press the Shift key five times. A dialog box opens with instructions on how to set up the StickyKeys feature.
If you click OK, an icon (a group of squares) appears in the notification area.
To turn off StickyKeys, press the Shift key five times.
Hope this helps you......

I re read your problem and now I understand what you are saying. I need the exact make and model of your laptop so I can find the exact keyboard driver for your laptop. When I find it I will post the link here. Download your keyboard driver from the link I will post and install it. This will set up your keyboard like the day it was new. I read it to fast and thought you were having problems turning on sticky keys.
When you install the right driver you will be all fixed up. Get back to me with the model and number of your laptop.

I am trying to find a way to make accents in the French laguage and cannot find a way to do this on my acer aspire 5920. Can you help

Difficult on a laptop. This is because the numeric keys are part of the main keyboard. There is a USB numeric pad available but no guarantees .

Normally on conventional keyboard ñ would be a combination of ALT0241 but on the laptop this will noyt work. Some special characters can be achieved by ALT FN JII ( hitting the i up to 8 times a separate character is made. also jiim etc try a few for yourself ( mainly r side of keyboard characters.

Now to solve your problem the only way I can see is to download the extended keyboard program hat is free select the characters copy and paste

Hope that is of help

What is the fastest way of typing an é? I have been going through start, accessories, system tools, character map, copying, pasting, but there must be a quicker way?

If you are doing this on a laptop then you are stuck. About the only way is to use character map and copy as you have been or to try to program a quick start key to paste it.

The ALT-0233 is meant to be used on a 101 key pc type keyboard and the laptops do not use the same layout. Your only options would be to use a external keyboard instead of the built in one. I've tried a few things such as the built in numpad using function and an external numpad but neither worked for me. Your laptop may be different so it worth trying.

I cannot sign onto my computer.

If you note which keys type double characters you can use the backspace key to backup one character as a work around, but it sounds like you may need to replace it. If it is wireless, try new batteries first and also try another keyboard if you can borrow one.
