You can enter by pressing Q on the IBM ThinkPad Logo Screen, atleast that worked on my IBM ThinkPad 560. You then will get a error, but click test and then click exit and got to the Start up and you can pick what reads first. Floppy/ CD-ROM, PCMCIA.
If this is a 2000 ThinkPad or above just press the IBM, ThinkPad or Access IBM Button.

Also what model is your laptop? If you want to send it to me I can install Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP on it with out a CD-ROM Drive like my ThinkPad 560. I don't have my Windows 2000 CD but have the other 3. Let me know if you want me to do that.

161 and 163 error means you have to change your CMOS battery. open the laptop, change the cmos battery and you should be able to set the date and time.

after which you can access the bios by pressing F1 upon boot up and change the boot sequence after that

Sounds like you are trying to boot from a lan or someplace other than your hard drive. Turn the computer off then turn it back on and watch the screen for which key it says to hit to Change the Boot Order or Boot Sequence then hit that key. You have to hit the key when you see the message or it will not work and you'll have to reboot to restart the process. Select the Hard Drive as your boot source and then see if it boots up all the way. If it does, you will have to do this each time you start the computer unless you make a permanent change to the boot order or boot sequence.

To make the change permanent, turn the computer off and restart it. Look at the screen for which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup then hit that key. You have to hit the key when you see the message or it will not work and you'll have to restart. Once you get into the Bios or System Setup look for the Boot Sequence Tab or Settings and go change the boot sequence or Boot Order. Make the cd drive 1st, and the hard drive 2nd. This is the normal boot order or boot sequence. Just make sure when you boot the computer you don't have a music cd or movie dvd in the drive or you'll get an error because the system will try to boot from the cd/dvd drive 1st.

Invailid disc

Did you reinstall windows? If not, you need to put an operating system disk in the cd drive and boot from it and reinstall windows.

If you don't get an option to Press Any Key to Boot From CD message then turn the computer off and restart it and watch the screen for which key it says to hit to Change the Boot Order or Boot Sequence. Hit that key when you see the message otherwise it will not work and you will have to reboot. This is a temporary fix that will work that this boot cycle.

If you want to make a permanent change to the boot cycle or boot sequence you have to turn the computer off then turn it on and watch for which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. You have to hit that key when you see the message or it will not work and you'll have to start over. Once inside the Bios or System Setup got the the Boot Tab so you can change the boot order or boot sequence. Normally you want it to boot from the CD drive 1st and the Hard Drive 2nd. With this setup just make sure when you boot the computer that you don't have a music cd or movie dvd in the drive or it will try to boot from it and give you an error message.

Boot sequence for compaq evo n800 laptop

You need a system disk first of all. Put the disk in the drive, turn the computer off then reboot. Watch the screen for which key it says to hit to change the boot sequence or boot order. Hit that key when it is shown. This is a one time solution that is only for the current boot process.

To make it permanent, boot the computer an notice what keys it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Hit that key when shown. You can change the boot sequence or boot order and make it a permanent change in the bios. The most common and best boot sequence is to have the CD drive 1st and the Hard Drive 2nd. Just make sure no disk is in the cd drive when you boot it up or you will get a error saying no boot record or system disk found.

Reinstalling

Hard drive has bad sectors on it which is why its giving you that message even though you can go thru the restore. Normally going thru the system cd and then the recovery cd should bring you into windows with the device drivers installed.

Cant get on.keeps saying operating system not found.ihave windows xp.can you tell me what to do and why its doing that? Thanks

Do you have the original start up disc? If so use it. If not there is generally a button to use at start up that will get you to a screen where you can restore your computer to a previous date. The button is usually F10 or F11 or one of the f keys. Also make sure that you don't have a disk in one of the drives. Take everything out and try starting it up. Good luck.

Ok.Better reinstall the os.Because disk boot error cannot be solved is suppose...To install the os follow these steps.

Step 1:Power on your system and press DEL key

You will see a blue screen with some options on it in white. (you can only use your keyboard to navigate in this screen). Go to the Advanced Setup Options ---> then select Boot Priority ---> 1st Boot device to be Floppy drive , 2nd Boot device to be CD-Rom drive

Step 2:Insert the Bootable DOS floppy in your Floppy Drive. Press F10 to save the bios settings and exit. (Your system will re-start automatically)

Step 3: Let the Dos load from the floppy and A: shows up.

Step 4: Change the Command prompt to HDD Drive letter, it will be D: or E in which u have Xp cd contenet. And type If xp content in d:under x folder mean.D:cd\x and press enter.

Step 5: now type on the D:\ prompt -- setup.exe and press enter

Step 6: follow the prompts there after. and for more info contact http://tinyurl.com/m7ghqz

CF 27 Original Boot Disk

Hi,
What OS did you load? It originally came with either Win 95 or Win 98. I believe I've got the restore cd for the CF-27 Win 98 at the shop. I could burn you a copy.
BTW, how did you get it to load from a usb cdrom?
