how do you get into the boot sequence to change it so you can l load from the cd 1st because i have errors 161 163 and i want to reinstall the os but its no picking up the cd

Guru161 and 163 error means you have to change your CMOS battery. open the laptop, change the cmos battery and you should be able to set the date and time.
after which you can access the bios by pressing F1 upon boot up and change the boot sequence after that

MasterYou can enter by pressing Q on the IBM ThinkPad Logo Screen, atleast that worked on my IBM ThinkPad 560. You then will get a error, but click test and then click exit and got to the Start up and you can pick what reads first. Floppy/ CD-ROM, PCMCIA.
If this is a 2000 ThinkPad or above just press the IBM, ThinkPad or Access IBM Button.

Also what model is your laptop? If you want to send it to me I can install Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP on it with out a CD-ROM Drive like my ThinkPad 560. I don't have my Windows 2000 CD but have the other 3. Let me know if you want me to do that.
