Brand new the unit does NOT have a PIN. Therefore, there is no where to "locate" it. You need to ask whomever you purchased the unit from what the PIN is. Failing that, ask them the location at which the PIN was set. This is the security location, and going there will unlock the unit. The only other option you have is to send the unit back to Garmin. Be aware, however, if you cannot prove to them that you purchased the unit, they WILL NOT return it to you.

Unlock gps 760 garmin ilost the 4 pin number

The only way to do it is to go to the location you set as "home" in the GPS. When you are at that location, the GPS will not ask you for a PIN and you can then go in and change the PIN.

If you don't know what the home location is, you'll need to contact Garmin http://www.garmin.com

There are so many of these being stolen from vehicles, the PIN is designed to make the unit useless to thieves.

Good luck!

I brought a drug sized auto that had a garmin in it and it works , but its asking me for a pin number , what can i do to reset the pin its the garmin 200.

You can't reset the PIN. Since it was not yours when it was locked, you do not have the PIN, know the security location nor do you have proof of purchase of the unit itself. Without one of those three, you will not be able to use this unit.

I was givin a streetpilot 510c by my grand prents that they had brought in western Aust as they have forgotin the pin number and were in W.A. when they first set it up since i live in victoria a 6 hour...

Unfortunately, you don't have any quick and easy options, the security wouldn't be much use if it were otherwise. Garmin Lock has been activated and can only be disabled by either entering the correct PIN or by turning the unit on at its "security location". This will be the place where the PIN was originally set. Garmin will not assist you as you are not the original purchaser.

Your only fix is to contact your grandparents to ask if they remember where they set up the PIN number. As the unit strongly advises that the security location is not the owner's home address this may not be straightforward. If they can remember, then post the unit back to them so that they can take it to the security location and disable Garmin Lock. If this is not possible, then your grandparents should contact Garmin who will assist them if they have proof of purchase or have previously registered the unit with Garmin.

You should ask the person from whom you purchased the unit the PIN or the Security Location (the location at which the PIN was entered). Your only other option for unlocking the unit would be to send it back to Garmin, but they will likely not unlock it and/or not return it to you without proof of purchase.

Was given unit but need to reset pin how

I assume the unit is locked now. If it is and it was given to you by the original owner, ask them what the PIN is or where they set it (the security location) to unlock it. Once it is unlocked, you will be able to change the PIN.

If it was not given to you by the individual who set the PIN, you will be unable to unlock the unit unless you happen to know the security location. Garmin will not unlock a unit for you that you did not purchase.

I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 260 on ebay and it is locked. How do I unlock it. It does nothing but ask for the pin?

I would do one of two things: ask the seller for the PIN or return it and get your money back. You cannot get past the PIN number without entering the correct PIN, taking the unit back to the location at which the PIN was entered or returning the unit to Garmin. However, Garmin requires proof of purchase in order to send the unit back to you.

I forgot my password

If you no longer want a PIN lock on your Garmin, unlock the unit by 1 - Entering the correct PIN or 2 - Taking the unit back to the location at which you originally entered the PIN. Once the unit is unlocked, press the icon at the bottom of the screen that looks like a wrench. Then press "System", and "On" next to "Garmin Lock." Then press "Off." The unit will no longer ask for a PIN on startup.

GPS CODE

Some GPS manufacturers provide a feature, which allows the GPS owner to assign a unlock access code or PIN to their GPS.

The PIN is designed to prevent your GPS from being used by an un-authorized user. It was also meant to be used a a deterrent to thieves, making the GPS useless if stolen.

When you set up the PIN, you will be asked to enter in a code. After you enter the last digit, you will be asked again for the code. This is to make sure that both entries match and verifies that the PIN that you requested will be the one written into memory.

Your PIN is written into non-volatile memory..... it's not a file that is accessible via USB communications between the GPS and a PC. You can't clear it by disconnecting the power or disconnecting the battery or letting the battery run down. There is no jumper or switch inside the GPS to reset it, so don't waste your time tearing your GPS apart in an attempt to clear it.

Now, after you set the PIN, you will be asked to set the "secure" location. This can be anywhere.... your work location, home, local gas station, school, etc. In order to set the secure location, your antenna must be up and you have to have a satellite lock. If you don't have a lock, the "set" key will be grayed out until you acquire a lock.

The secure location is your "back-up key" in case you forget your PIN. If you have forget your pin, all you have to do is physically go to the secure location. Make sure your antenna is up and that you have a satellite lock. When you are in the secure location, your GPS will NOT ask you for the PIN when you turn it on. You'll then be able to reach the main menu and change the PIN and secure location to something else if you desire.

If you have forgotten both the PIN and secure location, you are out of luck. You'll have to send your unit back to the manufacturer to have it unlocked. The manufacturer may charge you for this service.

Note: If you do send the unit back to the manufacturer to be unlocked and you are found not to be the original & rightful owner of the GPS and it's determined to be stolen, the manufacturer may contact law enforcement (they're policy on this is right on their website under FAQ's).
