Question about Zenith Z32H41D TV

No picture, Horizontal line center of screen

I have a Zenith Z32H41D 32" T.V. that has a White horizontal line that is centered in the screen. The audio seems to be okay. The line is a bright white color. I removed the back cover and see no signs of a fryed board nor any burnt chips. I adjusted the manual horizontal and vertical controls with no change. Any help is greatly appreciated. Greg

I re-soldered the 4 pin yoke connector to the main board; no fix. I re-soldered the transistor labeled H.O.T. which is located behind the yoke connector and behind the Deflection Transformer. No fix. Could you explain the measuring steps for the transistor? I've worked with low DC voltage transistors, and want to make sure of the correct procedure. Thanks, Greg

I removed and tested the transistor. Readings are Base to emitter = 45 Ohms. Reverse leads same reading. Collector to base = Open, reverse leads = 1.4M Ohms. Collector to emitter = Open, reverse leads = 1.4M Ohms. Replaced transistor, new transistor readings are the same except the 1.4M Ohms readings are 2.2M Ohms. Installed new transistor, No change. Is the Vertical driver the next best area for testing? Thanks, Greg

You either have a bad solder joint at the yoke plug. Thats the large group of wires coming off the yoke on the picture tube neck, Resolder where that plugs enters the chassis the pins may have a crack in the solder, The other item to check is the solder around the horizontal output which is mounted on the heat sink near the flyback transformer. That Transistor could be open as well and if so it will need replacing. Try the solder first however as that seems most likely.

okay, first you have to remove the transistor from circuit then check for resistance pins much like checking a diode any 2 pins should have resistance in one direction but very little when the meter leads are reversed on the same two pins you check emitter to base and collector to base then emitter to collector if you get high continuity on any given 2 pins no matter how you reverse the meter leads the trans is shorted. If you get no continuity no matter how you reverse the meter leads the transistor is open. Either way the trans will need to be replaced. Let me know if you have any questions or need more assistance.

yes it has to be one of the components in the vertical circuit that is causing the loss of vertical deflection also check the diodes and resistors in the vertical section.

Can be a case of vertical collapse. If this is the case, then the vertical oscillator and/or the vertical driver circuit are faulty. .

You can take you problem directly to zenith. They have a customer service post available here

Zenith tube tv has thin white lines but no picture and I can hear audio

Hello jreese, Hi, Most definitely its a horizontal output problem, your tv has no horizontal deflection to pull the screen vertically, the power transistor that produces the high voltage is bad, this needs to be replaced. definitely you always have sound, the audio section is a separate block from the high voltage block, go look for a technician to have this checked.

My 15 year old Toshiba Televisiononly shows a narrow horizontal band in the middle of the screen. Sound OK.

Hiii fairley,

You aren't specsificly dercribe yor tv set.
For common TV horizontal problem ;i.e : White line accross the horizontal screen, horizontal band,etc..it's can solved by replacing the IC Vertical/Transistor, and olso to replace the cap nearest the IC.

For common TV Vertical Problem :i.e : White line at the center of the screen (top to bottom),Vertical band,etc...It's can cure by Replacing the Horizontal IC/Transistor,and offcurse the cap's.

Tha's what all I know....

Hope can help you to solved the problem.

Thank's

I have a KV27FS210 sony wega trinitron tv. It turns on and has a single horizontal line across the center of the screen then buzzes shows a continuous zigzag line from the top to bottom of the screen with...

The single horizontal line is a problem with the vertical circuit. Look for a small flat id attached to a heatsink that should be marked LA7837 or something similar. Try resoldering the pins of this IC first. If that does not resolve it, replace the IC.

Keep us posted.

Absolutely right about the transistor and also check any adjacent resistors to the transformer and to the line output transistor. Good luck.

White Horizontal line across screen

It is most likely the vertical deflection IC has overheated and lost its soldering. If you open your TV up, it is a 10-15 pin in a row IC sticking out of the motherboard attached to a heatsink. It should be labeled "IC451." Give it a wiggle, see if it affects the picture, You may have to resolder them in place.

The IC may be hard to find, look for a peice of metal that is sticking out of the motherboard, attached to a small chip. I fixed a samsung tv that had it in the middle area.
