I have a whirlpool dryer M460-G (SN#MH4612126 ? LGR7646EQ3). The dryer does not heat up. I checked the back and cleaned all the lint. The gas ignites and heats some time but not all the time and when it is...

Replace your gas valve coils!! They will allow the dryer to heat initially, but fail after about the 3rd or 4th iginition sequence.
Part number 279834 and are around $20.
They are located on top of the valve and held on by a steel bracket with two phillips head screws. Plug and play wires you cant mess up.
Fix it up!!

You need to replace the Thermal Fuse. 1st. Unplug the unit :)
2nd Unscrew the back panel.
Look on the bottom left hand side of the unit for a white/cream rounded rectangle with 2 little connectors going into it. (If your not sure what your looking for google "thermal fuse whirlpool" click on "images" so you have a better feel for what it looks like.)
Disconnect, pull the fuse out go to your local appliance parts store, bring in the fuse and ask for a replacement. It should be around $19.00. I have the same unit and had to replace mine twice. First time cost me a ton via "the repair guy" learned from him and just had to replace it for the 2nd time 9 years later.

Is yours the gas model? If so I need you to look for some things. Open back door panel and see if while trying to light the igniter is glowing orange. Sea Breeze

Whirlpool dryer LGR7646EQ3. Burner lights before pushing start.

The heat is regulated with a Klixon mounted next to the blower housing near the vent pipe so it can judge the temperature of the air coming out of the drum.Right next to it is a melting type fuse. If the dryer runs and gets too hot the fuse will melt. But the dryer will still run. So if the fuse is good(continuity) and the dryer control(cycle) thermostat is also good then you should have power going to the gas valve assembly when the machine is running unless the timer is in the no heat or wrinkle free/cool down mode. When the gas valve assembly is energized the flame sensor mounted outside the burner chamber detects the heat from the ignitor. When the heat is very intense then the sensor shuts down the ignitor and that frees up the power so that the coils can be fully energised and open the gas gates. The gas comes out and hits the red hot ignitor and you have ignition. It stays on for maybe 2 or 3 minutes or until the control thermostat is satisfied and shuts down power to the gas valve assembly.

Gas dryer/ whirlpool

well your generating heat which is a good sign, either there is a blockage in your venting() most likely source of issue!) but you say ou replaced, i would then look to replacing the valve coils, 279834, about 20 bucks, easy to replace... its possible that they open the valve upon start up allowing heat, but after being on 20-30 min they overheat and no longer open not allowing heat to generate..
