Can you remove the rear panel you see the ice buildup on the evaporator? I believe your refrigerator has a defective defrost element. You need to unplug refrigerator remove the panel and see what type of frost pattern you have. Here is a link to what you may see behind that panel=> HERE This is a link to what you said you see with frost on the rear panel=> HERE Can you confirm that your refrigerator model number is GSL25JFPBS? Look around the fresh food section door for your model number. Here is a photo HERE with the locations number 230 is the defrost heater=> WR51X10055 Defrost Heater Assembly
2_1_2013_2_48_36_pm.jpg

And location number 240 is the defrost thermostat=> WR50X10068 Defrost Thermostat
2_1_2013_2_54_44_pm.jpg

I would like to know what frost pattern and the true model number of your refrigerator so I can help you better. If it has the frosted over evaporator like in the photo above you can defrost with a hair drier and the refrigerator may cool again up to a week until you can replace the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. How to test these parts can be found on the same page as the part numbers I posted here, Thanks Sea Breeze

GE GSS20IEP CC is freezing up after we replaced the defrost heater and the thermostat. what else could it be?

you have a bad computer board located on the back outside wall, part number wr55x10942.everything runs through the board, sometimes you'll notice that the fans aren't running correctly too.unplug the machine, remove the cover, you'll need a pair of needlenose plyers, there are 4 white plastic pins that hold the board in place, pich in the tab on the pin and pull on the corner of the board, pull off the wire harnesses and plug them back in the same connectors then ground it with one of the screws.go here 801 is your part and this is your problem

My refer/freezer model ET14CC upright top freezer14.3 cu.ft. cycle defrost model no longer defrosts. I need a manual, parts list, part number, diagram, something to get started troubleshooting it.

ok if you have a multimeter you would set the multimeter to measure continuity you would then remove the rear panel in the freezer defrost any ice build up with a hair dryer and then you would look at the defrost thermostat the deforst heater and the defrost timer most of the time this is due to the defrost thermostat going bad you can also see how your defrost cycle works in your unit by clicking here http://www.applianceoutletservice.com/appliance-care-tips/refrigerator-tips/refrigerator-defrost-system-information.htm and as far as looking up the parts this model number you gave is not complete so you would get the complete number and click on this site which would bring up the entire schematic for your machine http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/ET14CC?pathTaken=modelSearch&prst=0&shdMod=ET14CC i left the look up on the page where you would pick which model is yours according to your exact model number if you have any further questions message me back and please remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped it allows me to help others in similar situations in the future Thanks Rick
p.s all the defrost pieces should have a continuity test done to them and which ever fails is the one that you would replace

I have a side-by-side refrigerator model #

This is an auotmatic defrost system. If you have severe frost build up on the back of the freezer wall you have a defrost problem. Either defrost timer, Defrost terminator (t-sat) or defrost heater.

Freezer stays cold, but the fridge side does not

A small amount of frost on the back usually means lots more behind it on the evaporator coil indicating a defrost problem. check defrost heater, defrost thermostat.
If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the motherboard.

Part 801 on this diagram is your motherboard.

Refrigerator not cooling, frosting up

You might try GE customer service and ask where to locate the defrost timer, since that sounds like your problem.

A common problem with these refrigerators is a faulty defrost heater. When the defrost heater fails ice will accumulate on the condenser coils located inside the freezer compartment of the refrigerator. Typical symptoms are frost appearing on the back wall of the freezer compartment, little or no ice being made by the ice maker, and above normal temperatures in the freezer compartment. The defrost heater should be replaced by a qualified repair person. The part itself is not particularly expensive.
