I have a similar problem. The red recording light is on, and won't turn off. It won't respond to anything but turning it off at the wall. Then when I turn it back on it says 'HDD title damaged. recover it?' I can either recover or delete it. Either way though, the recording resumes and I can't turn it off again. When I go to the HDD menu, it looks as if it is recording, but the time elapsed is 00.00 and I cannot stop it from the menu either.

Hope someone can help, this is driving me crazy!!

Jekabs. I have the same problem. The red light is on and the unit is nat responding. The unit is not respopnding to pressing the stand-by button for 100 seconds continuously. Error message says the DVD disc is at fault. To remove the disc is recommended, but the disc door is not opening. Ies there a mechanical interlock on thed isc drawer?

I also experienced this problem as well as other intermittent error messages about hdd titles damaged etc.
Rather than send machine back for repair I opened it up and found a loose cable to the hard drive.(Must have come loose during transportation even though they appear to be glued in?)
I assume that because the machine can't fully "boot up" (like with a computer) it just stalls with the red light around the DVD button.
So if you are not confident in opening the machine up (unplugged from the wall of course) I would suggest taking it to a repair shop (if it is not still under warranty)..chances are it is the hard drive.
Hope this helps a few people.

I had the same problem with my sansui san0218-160 dvd recorder. i found the power supply board inside the case had failed, so i replaced two faulty capacitors on the power supply board and reassembled the recorder, it`s working like new again. hope this may be of some help.

I've got the same model but what you are talking about is not a fault. It is a safeguard so you don't interrupt the recording accidentally. From memory, if you want to stop it recording, press and HOLD the stop button on the device (not the remote) until it responds. It takes a few seconds so be patient.

Good luck

Dvd player wont read the movie i burned to watch-need firmware?

Did you finalise the disc. If not try that. These older units were made before there were a lot of "homade" DVD's and were never designed to play them. Sorry. Hope this is of some help.

Vcr to dvd recording

As i recall, +r's will only format in dvd vr, the unit does not like high speed recording disks. switch to dvd drive - insert blank disk - if no format screen - goto (on remote) setup - onscreen menu - system setup - disc setup - new disk format - hit center button in ring on remote to change to vr or move up to reformat as vr. once disk is formatted, use record speed button on remote to set record speed 1,2,4,6 hr then switch to tape deck with tape in and stopped at begining, on remote hit dubbing, it will ask you confirm dubbing vhs-dvd .... toggle over to yes & hit center button... away you should go... c245 is a copyguarded tape.
