Gateway GWT-P42M303 screen problem

Ok I have a Gateway GWT-P42M303 plasma that I just received from a relative who told me I could have it if I could fix it. Originally he thought that the PSU was fried but when we opened it and looked everything seemed to be intact. He said when the picture went he heard a pop then it went blank (after flickering). The TV powers on and you can hear it trying to work and the LED lights on the front and back turn on but the screen does not seem to be powering on. We purchased a tester and tested the connections last night and discovered that the upper fuse on the ZSUS board was blown (the other one was fine). We replaced it with another fuse and it blew as soon as we turned the TV back on. We then bypassed all of the fuses and when we turned the TV back on it turned off after ten seconds or less. After a few attempts at this we unplugged the PSU cable from the ZSUS board to cut off the power supply and turned the TV back on and it turned on and stayed on (no picture still, just blank). This leads me to believe that the ZSUS is bad. I went online and found the part (well I think) for $100 but I am not confident enough in my assumption to just purchase it. Also the P/N on the board from the TV is LGE 6871QZH030A which when looked up says it’s a Zenith P/N but Gateway is telling me the P/N is 6870QZE009E. Should I just go with the number on the board or Gateway’s word who doesn’t even make their own plasmas? Please can someone help to figure out if I am right about the ZSUS board or could it be something else?

On my board the item "D1" was soldered out by itself. The item has the printed code 61FC4. Could someone tell me a store to buy this Diode?

I have exactly the same problem with a TEAC but the board is the LG one and D1 has desoldered itself and self destructed in a big way FS1 is also blown. Did replacing the diode and the fuse fix the problem?....I notice the other diodes, D2-D4 are actually in parallel with D1, I wonder why D1 died the same death in both our cases.

I have a LG 50px4dr. The screen was extremely dim. I was instructed to replace the zsus. I installed the replacement. Now the screen doesn't turn on, relay clicks, standby blinks yellowamber 15 times. I reinstalled the original zsus, which maintained it's original dim symptoms. The new zsus board is bad, right?

The 15v is shorted to the ysus board and probably one of the two big heat sinks with the number 4921QP1002B is the cause. If you don't repair it can I have it for parts?

I have gateway plasma tv srs bbc 50 " get verry hot in the exauste and in the sreen is it normal? think's

Yes,it's normal, a plasma uses a lot of power (over 300W) so it generates a lot of heat - especially the screen.Remember, plasma is an overheated gas so a large screen contains a very large amount of a very hot gas.

I have a Gateway gtw-p42m303 powers up to the warm up screen then light switches from green to standby orange. smells hot could be a power supply or capacitor?

Most likely a Y sustain module failure. Gateway does not make a set, so I would need a part number off of the board in order to give you an exact price of the part. Usually they're around $300.00

Gateway TV

I have had the same problem on my gateway plasma for a year now. My 2nd TV just started to show similar defects on the screen. I can never get a straight answer as to what causes this problem yet it is a very common defect on these tv models (gateway) most accurate answer I got from gateway was that it is better to buy a new one.

its a bit complicated but you trace the circuts and voltages across schematic,, with the if you can find gateway service manual for your specific tv besides this these things are very touchy they have built in circut protection and its just a matter of finding the fualty circut or ps led flash codes.. hope this helps..
