If the laptop posts

(power on self test) and you see stuff on the screen, no matter how short , do the following: (this checks for a software problem)

  • when booting up press F8 and when you get to the menu, boot up into safe mode, then restore the pc back to a date before you had the problem, and/or remove any program you installed prior to you having the problem, if that don't work
  • Try a bootable anti virus disc use it to check for any viruses , if not
  • try a recovery disc, or operating system disc ,
  • both disc's will try to access the hard drive.
  • if they do not work, (nothing has changed) nothing comes on the screen.

laptop does not post:
(then it is a hardware problem)
  • check battery is seated correctly and that the power pack is functioning,if the battery has gone flat and the power pack is not working ,the laptop will not start.
  • Remove any hardware you may have installed prior to you having the problem.
  • remove the screw(s) holding the cover plate on the back of the laptop where the ram lives remove the memory sticks,
  • clean the gold edges both sides, with rubbing alcohol or a pencil eraser, and re-insert them, (not an ink eraser as it will do damage)
  • swap them around if you have more than one, try one at a time.
  • if you only have one, borrow one from a friend or try the ram in your friends laptop ,if that's possible,
  • or take the ram to your local pc shop and ask them to check it for you (they may do that for you)
  • if you can establish that the ram and power pack is ok, and anti virus and recovery /system disc's do not work, then it is most likely, that the motherboard has failed .
  • Generally a dead hard drive would not stop the laptop from posting.
good luck with that and let me know how you get on.

My hp 530 is very slow and it freezes

The HP freezinng issue can be caused by many many reasons such as outdated hardware, overload startup programs, corrupt registry issues, too many junks, virus attack, poor security software taking too much system resources, remnants of uninstalled applications etc. The fact is, you should keep some system maintenance job regularly. If you don't want to do these manually, try http://www.speeduphp.com/hp-laptop-freezes.html to give a free & full scan of your slow HP PC to find & fix all possible issues.

Meanwhile, upgrading hardware configuration (add RAM, change a new video card, larger-volume HDD etc) can be a fast yet effective way to improve your pc performance. But that won't be the most economical way, as you know you can't always afford to do that.

Fozen curser - worked yesterday- today switch on curser froze, problem switching computer off. tryed turn on and off still same. taken battery off , it now working not sure if related

The cursor freezes when the system is freezing up for some reason ..and the action was a good one ..The idea is when the system is stuck ..it probably either didn't found a file and will stay that way ..or the actions selected was beyond its resources..or so ..
main action is to turn it off by cutting all power/..this way it is similar with a soft reset and if the operation system is not damaged will boot again in normal way ..(if it shows multiple choises ...select to boot to the last known configuration that worked..and press enter ..

Flip Video Mino keeps freezing up, can't shut down or upload

At least the following works on my first generation Flip Ultra camcorder (not Mino). Remove battery, put it back next morning. After that be careful not to touch "on" slider switch on the side of the camcorder while Flip logo is still on the screen. I mean turn the device on by using the slider switch and do not touch that switch again until Flip logo on the screen is gone. Doing the opposite (trying to use the "on" switch again while device is still "booting" and Flip logo is on the screen) will lead to the Flip Ultra freeze.

Sudden switch off / freezes

Hello, I currently own a Garmin quest myself, and some time ago I had some strange problems myself, I am a electronics technician, and I do have a work around for you. I will explain the problems and a cure for you to try, none of the work arounds depend on any parts to be removed.

1. NO RECEIVING SATELLITE TELEMETRY. I beleieve this could be due to a number of reasons, but more so at sometime corrupted telemetry was the problem to fix this,
a turn GPS on when booted (initialised)
b. depress menu
select settings
select Time Setup
when in Time Setup depress MENU
Select SET DATE
Depress OK button
Depress OK button again on the numberic keypad that appears on the screen (DONE)
what this seems to do is resets the internal date/time clock and the unit starts to work again.
the Second workaround is this but takes hours to perform.

Simply turn the Guest on and allow the battery to fully discharge, usually this works to TOTALLY flush the Memory again, but on my unit I have to setup all the maps again, this is easy to perform, but just takes time. I hope this helps you.

Game Freezes

It seems that your system is having trouble writing data to the HDD. Have you tried switching hard drives with your brother? It can be a corrupt sector or the entire disk. Try to format the disk and try again or switch your hard drive with your brother's or if you have the cash, buy a new hard drive for your ps3. Regards. Hope it helps.

PS: If you try using your brother's hard drive in your PS3 you will have to format it so I suggest you do a backup.
