Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

The bobbin thread stitch is loose even after

My newly adopted rarely used (three times maybe?) Singer Sewing machine circa 1979 has made it through one project but now is giving me problems with the bobbin thread. It still remains loose even after adjusting the tension dials re-winding the bobbins and using different bobbins altogether. Should I be worried this is a big problem or is it something that can probably be solved by a cleaning and tune-up?

My top stich is tight, but bottom is loose of my singer sewing machine.

Think in opposites... the top stitch is formed by the bottom thread tension and the bottom of the stitch by the top. So either the bobbin thread is too tight or the top thread is too loose. Check the bobbin thread first as that is the one most overlook. It should come out of the bobbin without having to yank it hard but it should have a little resistance.

Sewing machine will not stitch. The thread goes into the material but does not make a stitch. I've changed the needle, cleaned the bobbin, rethread the bobbin and the top thread.??????????????

Is this the first time you have used the machine? If so you need to bring up the bobbin thread by hand before stitching. Only when both bobbin and top threads are up through the needle plate nad pulled towards the back of machine, will the machine form a stitch.

I have an old singer sewing machine circa 1979, and I'm having problems with the bobbin thread not being picked up by the needle

your needle may be in wrong make sure flat side of needle is at the back of the holder. If that is not helping it needs some timing work on it.

Mine is doing the same thing. It's pulling the thread up from the bobbin and making a huge knot. Any suggestions. I've done all the above checks. Brand new needle, tension is on embroidery, threaded properly and no lint in bobbin compartment.

The bobbin thread stitch is loose even after

Set the tension back to the recommended setting for the type of sewing you are doing.

Lift the presser foot. Rethread the machine. Always thread a sewing machine with the presser foot up as this opens the tension control and allows the thread to "seat".

What looks like the bobbin thread is mis-stitching is actually the top thread not holding the stitch due to the tension control not having control.

Cleaning and a tune-up is always a good idea when there is heavy use or the machine has not been used for a long time.

The bench charge starts at about $80 plus any parts that need replacing.

I have a Singer 9410 sewing mach. w/ tension & peddle problems

Be sure you are using a Class 66 bobbin for this Singer machine. Using another style bobbin can cause tension problems and thread looping/bunching.

Topand bottom stitches are not even

Could be a tension issue.

Try this to see if it helps:
Remove top thread.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Start the top tension set at the midway point and then adjust.
Check that the bobbin is threaded and installed correctly.

First, give Mom all your Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
Then, be sure the bobbin-winding function is not still engaged. Check it again, since on some machines, the mechanism has to be backed off until you hear a click, or until a light turns off. If that's done, check the tension on your top thread, since that's easier, then on your bobbin thread.
If the bobbin didn't get wound evenly (Like if you're hurrying) that will mess up its ability to let the thread flow out, so see if the thread on the bobbin looks as smooth as a new spool of thread.
I hope you got your costume together & had fun aside for that frustration. :^)
