Question about Nintendo 64 Console

1 Answer

When ever i turn on the power button for my n64 the pictures for my console don't ever come on. My dad thinks that the part for the power swith is loose or broken. Why did it break is it because its just old is that why? Its 12 years old and how long to n64 systems live up to then? Is this normal for it to stop working then because its old?

Well it might be the memcart on the system went bad then or its possible that the on and off switch could be loose then. So to fix the on & off button you need to attach duc tape or gum to the inside
were the power btton lives on the inside part of the n64 consoles.

My N64 console gives us a gray screen when it's turned on.

Well a grey or a green screen means that there is sOmething wrong with the power supply black piece inside of the N64 console where the ac adapter connects into is wearing out then.

Bought a 2nd hand N64 & don't know how to set it up on the tv as no instructions.

You now need to find a channel on your TV that ins't used for anything else (eg an old vhs player or non-digital tv) then whilst on that channel you need to go into your TV's menu, there is often a button both on the remote and TV itself for this. This is where you turn on your N64 if you haven't already. You then will need to go onto automatic tuning (or if you prefer, manual tuning, in the programme section (if you dont have a programme section, just srcoll through each section till you find automatic tuning) your TV should then start to search for channels, after a little while of searching it should find the N64's frequency it may be a terrible picture that is mostly fuzz you can either carry on the tuning to see if it'll find it better or just head straight to fine tuning (if you decied to keep going you can still fine tune for the best picture quality possible and also if the TV doesn't find it just follow the previous steps till it locates the N64 again) once fine tuned you will need to store this new channel and then you can go ahead and enjoy countless hours of fun on the worlds best gaming console. (If the automatic tuning doesn't find the N64 at all try manual tuning). If you have any other issue with the console itself just drop me an e-mail at garleet@hotmail.co.uk. Hope I was a help.

I dont know how to set it up

- First you need a rather old TV, like maybe before 2002, if you have one. Because on newer TVs N64 graphics are terrible !

- Once you have your TV, check to see if you have two cables with your 64 (if you don't something is missing !). One shaped like a little box on one end and an electrical plug on the other : you hook up the little box to your N64 and plug the device in the nearest power socket. The other cable has a a strange black and rectangular input that hook up in your N64 and 3 sockets that are red, yellow and white. Connect the latter on your TV by finding the same sockets with the same colours !

- Connect your controller to the console (it's the round-ish sockets in front of it)

- insert your game

- THEN turn on your console. Don't turn it on unless everything hooked up !

(if it doesn't work you may want to try the famous turn-off-the-console-blow-into-the-cartridge-put-it-back-and-try-turning-your-N64-again trick !)

Good luck ! :)

My n64 turns on and is hooked up to the tv and it doesn't show any picture or has any sound coming out of it

make sure your connection on the back of the N64 is all the way in the N64. Also check the connections on the back of the TV to make sure you have them plugged into an "input".

How do you erase memory from the memory pak

  • Plug an N64 controller into the "Player 1" port on the Nintendo 64.
  • 2 Place the N64 Controller Pack into the memory card slot on the Nintendo 64 controller.
  • 3 Insert a Nintendo 64 game into the cartridge slot on the N64.
  • 4 Hold down "Start" on the N64 controller.
  • 5 Turn the Nintendo 64 on via the "Power" switch on the device. After the console loads, the Controller Pack menu will appear on the screen.
  • 6 Release the "Start" button on the N64 controller.
  • 7 Browse through the saves listed, using the N64 controller's directional pad.
  • 8 Highlight the game you want to erase.
  • 9 Select the "Delete" option. The pages that were occupied by the game save will be erased from the Controller Pack.
  • 10 Repeat Steps 7 though 9 until you're finished erasing pages on the Controller Pak. Restart the N64 if you wish to play the game that was inserted into the device, or turn the Nintendo 64 off if you are done using the console.

My N64 isn't working. I put the game in and turn the power on but just get a blank screen. What do i do?

I would suggest checking all the leads are in properly and securely.

You may need to tune one of your unused tv channels to play it. Just turn the N64 on (with a game in) and tune the tv until the picture comes up. If this does not work then you might want to clean up the console and games by using a can of air to clean the dust or check the leads (especially the av/aerial/component).

    Hope this helps
