Question about Televison & Video
you should,nt have to re-format or setup xp again.
1:) check the computer for viruses. viruses-trojans et,c malicious software can lock off drives.
2:) go into start/control panel/system/device manager.
click on cd/dvd drive if it,s there, uninstall it. restart the computer, you should then get a message new hardware found.
install drivers as necessary.
3:) check the drives cables. the 4 pin molex connecter ( plastic block ) with 1 red 1 yellow 2 blacks, to ensure it,s connected correctly. or try an alternative one if available.
Also check the 40-80 pin ide cable.
4:) try a secondary cable ( 40 pin ) on the secondary connector from the motherboard ( if not in use ) set drive as a master.
Hope this helps.

Tips for a great answer:
The built in dvd drive of the
Hr-720 is very useful to be able to copy videos from the hdd to dvds. After a
few months, my dvd rw refused to format rw disks and gave system error messages.
Managed to fix the problem by
doing the following:
Remove the top pvr cover.
Then the dvd drive cover is very easy to remove, only 5 screws and it is off.
Cleaned lens with cotton bud +
cd cleaner fluid
Sprayed lens assembly
traversing rod with wd40
Adjusted dvd potentiometer (circled
in red) - turned +540 degrees clockwise = 1.5 turns
The significant tweak here is
the pot adjustment. The idea is to reduce the diode resistance to get more
current through the dvd laser = more power. I noticed a difference straight
away with the first tweaks of 180 deg at a time, the dvd would load more
quickly and several formatted successfully. The pot should be set to between
4k-6k ohms, but there is no obvious way of measuring this.
So Im hoping this should be
ok now. It is worth trying as the dvd drive in its previous state was useless
electronic junk anyway, although the hdd has always been fine.
