Question about Singer 7422

Foot pedal I just bought a brand new singer 7422 yesterday, and brought it home . First thing there was no instruction book. Second I hooked everything up and plugged it in and the pedal foot and it wouldn't run. If I turn the wheel manually it will sew, what is the problem?

Your first port of call should be the Singer dealer from whom you bought the machine, it will be under warantee and you don't want to risk breaching the conditions by fiddling around yourself.

They have a duty of care to customers, and would be crazy to give poor service on a new machine.....phone them, outline the issues and arrange a time to meet with them (with the machine) to address the problems..perhaps they offer a familiarisation lesson, as many dealers do, that would also be of enormous benefit to you with a new machine and is a service we provide for all our customers to get them started, so they get maximum benefit from the beginning.

Foot petal is not working and it is plugged in.

Is there power, does the sewing bed light come on? If so there is probably a fault with the pedal. If you are practical you can open the pedal and fit a volt meter across the terminals to see if the voltage increase when the pedal is pressed.

I need to press on the foot pedal quite hard to get it to start, but then it is too fast, I can then release the pressure on it and go slower, but in the interim in a tight curve I have lost control and...

I think that you have a faulty foot pedal, if it is under warranty or new take it back where you bought it. But, if it no in warranty there are places online to buy a new foot pedal for about $35.

Wiring a foot control pedal for Singer Slant-o-Matic 401G sewing machine, banana socket. The machines listed are newer models and my 401 is not listed.

Faboulous machine the 401 and the best machine ever made, in the UK if I remember the two red wires go to the right hand pin and thw two blacks go to each terminal, when you rewire the plug which is fidly undo the stop motion, when you plug the machine in if it runs on without touching the foot control change the two black wires over, to rewire the foot control there are only two wires, you can't go wrong.

Buttonhole instructions needed for Singer 7422 Advance

These are the exact instructions from the Manual. 1. Select one of buttonhole patterns.
2. Replace the presser foot with the buttonhole foot. (Install presser foot with little red mark towards the front)
3. Insert the button into the buttonhole foot. (the part located in the back crescent shaped)
4. Lower the buttonhole lever (to the left of the needle) so that it drops down vertically between the stoppers A and B.
5. Carefully mark the position of buttonhole on your garment.
6. Place the fabric under the foot. Pull out the bobbin thread underneath the fabric to a length of about 4 inches to the rear.
7. Align the buttonhole mark on the fabric with the mark on the buttonhole foot, and then lower the buttonhole foot.
8. While holding the top thread, start the machine.
*Sewing will be completed automatically.
9. When sewing is finished, use a buttonhole opener to open up the frabric in the center of the buttonhole. Be careful not to cut anyt of the seam thread.
I hope this helps.
