Maybe the sensor for the cover malfunction. Try to find the thing that moving down when the cover is close and try to press it down and and the same time, print.
If still same, connection between the sensor and the board got problem. If this unit still under warranty, better you send it to service center.

Open the front cover of the printer
Press and release the "clear" key
Press "start", then press the up arrow until you see the number 12 on the display
Press "ok", you will see "accepted" on the display
Close the front cover, your toner cartridge should now work.

Hope it's the LCD Display problem if not the pata that connect the board and the LCD (display or screen)
Please try by replacing the (LCD)screen.
Note: If you can't fixed it by yourself then please refer to the nearest mobile service centre. (Cos' the LCD price is high)

Brother 9970cdw toner


The Brother printers have a counter which will shut the printer down when the preset number of copies has been reached. You can reset the counter and it should print again. I did this 4 months ago. It bought me a little time, but my printer has begun to print a solid line down the left side of each page. I have cleaned everything that I can access to rule out smudged glass, etc. Perhaps it is just best to replace the drum or buy a new printer(much to Brother's delight and design).

Mfc 5860 red printing green - already checked print levels. all are fine.


1. Confirm that the colors are incorrect by printing a Print Quality Check Sheet

a. Press INK.

b. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Test Print.

c. Press OK.

d. Use the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Print Quality.

e. Press OK.

f. Press COLOR START

The machine will generate the Print Quality Check Sheet.

2. The LCD will ask "IS QUALITY OK? 1. YES 2. NO"

a. Press STOP/EXIT to return to the "Date and Time" display.

3. Evaluate the Print Quality Check Sheet.

On the Print Quality Check Sheet each of the four colors is represented by a slanted square pattern made up of 96 individual blocks. The colors should appear in the following order from left to right: Black - Yellow - Cyan - Magenta.

NOTE: Cyan is the light blue color and magenta is the pinkish color.

a. If the colors on the Print Quality Check Sheet do not match the sequence listed above then the ink cartridges are most likely installed in the wrong order. Continue to STEP 4 to resolve this.

4. Open the Ink Refill cover.

5. Open the cartridge covers of the colors that do not appear in the correct order.

6. Remove the cartridges and reinstall them in the correct slots. On Brother Genuine Cartridges the color of the label will match the color of the cartridge cover.

7. Run a "Setup Purge". A Setup Purge is necessary to replace the ink in the ink supply tubes with the correct color. One or more of the ink cartridges may run empty during this process. If they do, replace the empty cartridge with a Brother Genuine Ink Cartridge before continuing the process.

a. Press MENU - BLACK START - MENU. The LCD will display Maintenance.

b. Press 7-6, The LCD will display CLEANING ALL

c. Press 6, the LCD will display eINIT__P ALL

d. Press the RIGHT ARROW key until one of the colors that was installed incorrectly is displayed. i.e. eINIT__P CYAN.

e. Press the BLACK START Key.

  • After the machine completes the Setup Purge it will return to the Standby Display.

8. Print another Print Quality Check Sheet

a. Press INK.

b. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Test Print.

c. Press OK.

d. Use the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Print Quality.

e. Press OK.

f. Press COLOR START

9. The machine will generate another Print Quality Check Sheet.

a. If all four colors printed correctly the issue is resolved.

b. If one or more of the colors are still not printing in the correct order repeat STEPS 4 - 8.

The ink wont adhere to the paper. I know it's not a paper issue cos we are just using plain paper. It is smeared and has white spots on it where the ink came off.


Print cartridge
When the print cartridge contacts are dirty and the printer cannot detect/communicate with print cartridge.
Clean the contact points on the cartridges with a dry, lint-free cloth.
1. Open the top cover of the printer.
2. Remove the print cartridges.
3. Clean the copper-colored contact points on the cartridges with a damp, lint-free cloth. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to remove moisture from the contacts.
5. Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
6. Close the top cover.
7. Try printing again.
If you still cant communicate try with new cartridge .

No B/W print while black cartridge is full.


Your printer and its software will let you know when an ink cartridge is low or expended.

If an ink cartridge is low or expended, you see a message on the Epson Stylus CX8400 LCD display screen. If a cartridge is expended, you must replace it to be able to print. If a cartridge is low, you can continue printing until a cartridge needs replacement.

NOTE:
You cannot print or copy when an ink cartridge is expended even if the other cartridges are not expended. Replace any expended cartridges before printing or copying.

When an installed ink cartridge is more than six months old, you may need to replace it if your printouts do not look their best, even after cleaning and aligning the print head.


Follow the steps below to replace one or more ink cartridges that are low on ink, expended, or too old:

1. Turn on the printer.

If you're replacing a cartridge before you see a message on the LCD display screen, press Setup, select Maintenance, and press OK. Then select Change Ink Cartridge and press OK.

2. Open the scanner.

3. Open the cartridge cover.

4. Squeeze the tab on the cartridge and lift the cartridge straight up to remove it. Dispose of it carefully. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it.

5. Before opening the new cartridge package, shake it four or five times. (Do not shake a cartridge after opening the package; ink may leak.)

6. Remove the cartridge from the package, but be careful not to touch the green chip on the cartridge.

7. Remove the yellow tape from the bottom of the cartridge.

CAUTION:
Do not remove any other labels or seals, or ink will leak.

8. Insert the new cartridge into the holder and push it down until it clicks into place.

9. Once you replace all the necessary cartridges, close the cartridge cover and push it down until it clicks into place.

10. Close the scanner.

11. Press OK to begin charging the ink. This takes about 2 minutes.

When you see a completion message on the LCD display screen, ink charging is finished.

CAUTION:
Never turn off the printer while ink is charging or you'll waste ink. If you see an ink replacement message on the LCD display screen, press OK and press down all the cartridges securely.

Put in cartridge error


Hi celcono,

Many times this happens because the Print Head needs reseated.

Here are the instructions from Canon on reseating the print head.

Reseat the Print head Reseating the print head is seldomly required to do.
  1. Make sure the machine is powered on.

  2. Lift the Scan Unit until it locks into place (1). The Print Head Holder moves to the center.

  3. Open the Paper Output Tray (2).

  4. Open the Inner Cover (2). The print head holder (3) should be centered.

  5. Lift up the lock lever and take out the print head. The print head can be removed with the ink tanks installed.

  6. Reinsert the print head back in position and press down the lock lever.

  7. Close the Inner Cover (1) and the Scan Unit (2).

    CAUTION: Press the center of the Inner Cover until the cover locks into place.

  8. After the Scan Unit is return to its original position, the LCD displays a message asking if you replaced an ink tank.

  9. Press [+] and select [NO] to exit.

My copier/printer lists the LCD alert 'back cover open'


"back cover" can be connected to more than one cover. If there is a door in the back it may also be connected to the Side cover.
What you need to check is the switches/sensors to see if maybe they are not sitting correctly in place.
Open the doors and look for a protruding piece of plastic on the door, this corresponds to a hole in the machine that has a sensor or switch behind it, is it pushing the switch all the way ? (may need to be adjusted). Is there a sensor? is it loose?

Print cartridges


  1. When one or more ink cartridges are empty, for example, Black, the LCD shows “Ink Empty Black” and “Open Cover.” Close the printer’s document support and the document tray.
  2. Lift the top cover to the open position until it locks securely into place.
  3. Pull the ink cartridge hook toward the front of the printer and remove the color ink cartridge displayed on the LCD. Place the cartridge in a plastic bag as it may still contain some residual ink and may leak.
  4. Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD and remove the new ink cartridge. The cartridge cover may come off when you open the bag. This is not uncommon and will not damage the cartridge.
  5. Each color has its own correct position that is clearly labeled and color coded inside the printer. Keep the ink cartridge in an upright position when you insert it into slot. It will only fit in the correct direction. Press down on the ink cartridge until the hook snaps over it.
  6. If you replaced an ink cartridge while “Near Empty” was displayed on the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that the replacement cartridge was brand new one. Example: “Did You Change Black? 1.Yes 2.No.” For each new cartridge you installed, press 1 on the dial pad to automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand-new one, select 2.

mukuwa, here are a couple of suggestions: How do I clear a Machine Error 41? Description: * Machine Error 41 indicates a mechanical malfunction of the FAX/DCP/MFC. * Unplug the unit from the power source and then plug it back in again. * If the error message continues to be displayed on the LCD, please contact Brother Customer Service. 1. Open the Scanner cover by pulling up on the edge of the scanner just above the LCD. 2. After 15 seconds, re-close the Scanner cover. 3. The LCD will then display Have you removed Blck? 1 Yes 2 No. The LCD will display this question for ALL 4 colours (not just the ones replaced). If 1 Yes is selected, the LCD will then display Change to new (colour)? 1 Yes 2 No. Note o "Change to new (colour)?" will only appear if 1 Yes is selected for "Have you removed (colour)?" If 2 NO is selected for the "removed" question, the LCD will then move on to the question for the next colour. o If "1 Yes" is NOT selected for the colour(s) that was replaced, the LCD will return to "Ink Empty". 4. After all the correct selections are made, the machine will then go into a cleaning. Once the cleaning is complete, the LCD will return to date and time.
