I can't close tower cover

When your computer appears to slow down, one way to help increase its speed is by adding memory. You can easily purchase memory chips from various online sources or if you have a Dell Dimension and want to stick with Dell products, you can purchase additional memory chips from Dell itself. It is not difficult for a non computer person to add memory to a Dell Dimension, although sometimes, it is cheaper to purchase a new computer and then install additional memory.

Shut down your computer, turn the computer off and unplug it. Open your computer case. There will be two thumbscrews on the back of the Dell Dimension computer case that will release the cover. The side of the computer case will then slide backward and lift away from the rest of the box. Locate the slots for RAM. These are short off-white slots that are near the power supply on the motherboard. They will be slightly longer than the RAM you are about to add. There will be at least one RAM chip already in place in one of the slots. Place your new RAM chip into a blank slot gently. It does not matter which slot you use; any will work. When you press the RAM into place, be sure the notch on the chip lines up with the slot. There will be a guide on the slot to ensure that you do not insert the chip backwards. Press down on the RAM chip until it locks into place. There are two guides on the side of the slot that will snap into place on the sides of the chip to ensure the chip does not fall out. It will take a bit of pressure to make the chip snap into place, so press straight down into the motherboard to get the chip in place. Close the computer case, put the thumbscrews back where they belong and start up the computer. Your Dell Dimension will sense the new RAM, which will be available to the operating system when the computer starts up. Hope this helps.

How to install ram for a toshiba satelite l455d

  • Power the L455D down and turn it over on a table. Locate the two battery latches near the top of the notebook. Push each latch away from the other one, then pull up on the back of the battery to remove it. Unplug any cables that are currently plugged into the machine.

  • 2

Locate the memory module cover, which is just under the battery compartment, and remove the screw holding it in place with your small Philips screwdriver. You will see the current chip in the bottom slot in the memory module.

  • 3

Hold the replacementRAM chip by the two corners that are away from the metal contacts.

  • 4

Place the RAM over the second slot, which is located just in front of the slot where your current chip is resting. Align the replacement chip so that the notch along the metal contacts matches up with the key in the RAM slot.

  • 5

Hold the replacement RAM chip at a 30-degree angle from the computer and slide it into the empty slot. Once the chip is all the way in, press down on it to lock it into place. You will hear a "snap" when the chip is locked in.

  • 6

Replace the memory module cover and screw it back into place. Then replace the battery and the cables, turn the laptop over and power it up.

  • If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

    Add more ram

    hi-
To add ram - look on the back of the lap top. You will see some screws that are holding down a little door. There may be two of these. Remove the screws on the ram cover and remove ram cover

1- press the buttons on the sides of the ram chip, and then it will pop up and towards you.
2- 2- pull this ram upwards and out
3- from there, you can take out the other chip, if there is one, or you can start installing.
4- installing the new ram chips is just as easy
5- line up the slots in the chip, then push it in as far as you can without breaking it.
6- then push it down so that you hear it click on both sides, and doesn't budge.
7- Repeat using the top chip.
    This should do it –
I hope it helps- please rate me – thanks

I need upgrade my memory and need manural to learn how

    Hi there.
Your computer will support 2x1GB (2GB max) DDR2 SDRAM.
    Installing it is surprisingly easy!!!
Remove the power cord from the back of the tower and then take off the side panel so you can see the motherboard, then look for the ram (memory), it looks like this >>>>>>
    e4d6c48.jpg

The slots the clip into look like this >>>>>
    d3f3d3a.jpeg
You will will have only 2 of these slots and they may differ in colour, all you have to do is push on the cream tabs to release the memory modules and to put it back in just make sure it clips into place.
Please post back if you need anymore help or advice.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

How do I add more RAM memory

It is easy to add more RAM to the laptop, the first thing you need to know is the type of memory you model uses. Your model uses DDR2@533MHz up to 2 GB RAM (2 chips 1 GB each).
PLACE THE LAPTOP UPSIDE DOWN ON A SOFT CLOTH. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T MISPLACE THE SCREWS.
    1. Remove the larger cover in the back of the laptop (2 screws) ; the memory chips are under this cover.
    2. Replace the chip(s) with larger capacity chip(s).
    3. Put the cover back (using the 2 screws you safely removed in step 1). Thats it!

    Adding RAM

If it has 4 slots and supports 2Gb max with 2 slots currently populated with 2 x 256mb chips you'll need to remove both those chips and install 4 x 512mb chips to reach the max of 2 Gb.

    Reg ram upgradation

Each memory slot on the C555NR can support a maximum of 1GB of RAM. There are actually 2 slots, but only one is easily accessible to you. By upgrading both the primary and secondary DIMMs, you could achieve a total of 2GB of memory but you would have to remove the 512mb chip that is already installed and replace it with 1GB (+1GB in the expansion slot as well.)

If you don't plan on taking the computer to a professional to be serviced, you will probably only want to upgrade the memory in the secondary slot located under the memory cover on the underside of the computer. It can handle a 1GB SODIMM.

    FYI the memory is:
    200 Pin DDR2-533 PC2-4200 SODIMM

    Good luck!

Install 2 RAM modules of 1 GB

The other memory may be soldered in. Check your manual and see if it has any information on additional memory. If you only have on expansion slot you may have to buy larger memory chips. like instead of 2 chips 1 gig each you may have to purchase a 2 gig chip. Computer companies usually make the chip installation easy to get to on lap tops.
