Have you removed the slide out cover sheet from the underside of the lid, is the slide adapter located correctly? Are you using the Epson Scan software that the scanner came with, if so have you set the Mode to Full Auto Mode, use this mode for 35mm colour negative strips or colour positive slides. You could also try setting it to Film by using the Customize option but in full auto mode the scanner should detect the slides. The most common problem is the adapter no located correctly

I have removed the white sheet that slides out when are going to scan slides and film.

I have disconnected all the cords, uninstalled the software and then reinstalled.

It just appears that the light lid isnt being read by the scanner and software - when you go to scan and go into home mode or professional mode the "film" is in grey colour and you can't click onto it.

    does this make sense

You have to be in Full Auto Mode not home or professional.

Nope tried this also it just scans it like a photo. Any more ideas

    Follow instructions here:

Is the lid cable plugged in base?

  • churley May 15, 2010

The film option is greyed out in all modes and nothing registers that I can do films or slides.

Yes the cable is plugged in - have taken it out and redone it a number of times.

I done everything that the manual says.

Think it may be a dud lid???

If you have followed explicitly the instructions given in my previous comment (the link to epson support) then I can only assume it's faulty.

Scanner doesn't recognise their is a slide loaded in the slide holder

The first thing I'd try is to run the scanner with the Nikon software. When you power on the scanner it goes through a variety of checks, and finally you should have a silent scanner with a solid green light at the front. Start the Nikon software and wait until it finds the scanner, if it doesn't you have a hardware problem with the scanner.

If it goes well to this point insert a card or plastic mounted slide and hit Preview. The scanner should then create and image you see on screen. Next step would be to make a scan. If the slide you're trying to scan isn't card or plastic mounted you'll need the Nikon made carrier.

Hope this helps.

I need an all in one printer that also has a negative scan facility. Any suggestions, I have 2000 slides to scan .

Do you want a recomendation?do you want new or used? Typically all in one users don't scan slides or film, but flat prints, so they don't have the lighted back lid needed to scan film.I know that the Epson Stylus PHOTO RX-620 & 700 had a holder for 4 slides or 1 strip of film about 8 inches long

Epson stylus sx200 refuses to acknowledge black ink bought direct from epson

I believe the DX series and the SX use the same system

# Determine which ink cartridges are not recognised.
# With the ink cartridge holder in the ink cartridge replacement position, lift up the ink cartridge holder lid and take the cartridge or cartridges out.
# Check that the cartridge is a genuine Epson ink cartridge - look for the EPSON branding and T0xxx codes on the cartridge labels.
# Check that the cartridges are correct for your Epson product.
# Wipe the green Intellidge Chip on the cartridge that is not recognised.
# Check the chip contacts within the ink cartridge holder for any debris or dried ink and wipe with a lint-free cloth if necessary.
# Check that the plastic at the bottom of the cartridge has been pierced.
# Check that the cartridges are in the correct slots.
# Reinstall the cartridges into the ink cartridge holder in the correct order.
# Push the ink cartridge down firmly. It should click into place.
# Repeat this for any ink cartridges that were removed.
# Push the ink cartridge holder lid down. It should clip into place and be secure.
# Press the Stop button, this will return the ink cartridge holder to the right hand side of the unit.
# If the error light flashes after the print head returns to the home position, the ink cartridge may not be installed properly.
# If the red light is no longer displayed, but Status Monitor still reports a Non-Genuine Ink warning.
# If the red light is still on the printer, and Status Monitor indicates that an ink cartridge is not recognised, follow the steps below.
# If the problem remains, there may be a fault with the ink cartridge.

Scanning in Epson 4180 perfection - trying to scan slide in home mode - positive film - when it scans the slide in its holder it scans the holder & the slide. What do I need to change?

Make sure the white document matt has been removed from underneath the lid. Then make sure that the document type has been changed from reflective to Film etc. If film is greyed out then check the cable is connected properly from the lid to the base of the scanner.

How to scan negatives & slides with the epson RX620

There are holders for the slides and negatives inside the top cover. Remove the white part and take out the holders. Place the slides or negatives in the holders and place on the glass plate. Then you choose the proper menu for copy or scan and follow the directions on the screen. I scanned quite a few slides and had no problem.
