I have had the same issue. It seems to me that the issue is with the battery having run too low - the n900 seems to want a certain level of juice before it can start charging in earnest.

Whenever I would plug the phone in via the USB cable, I would get a flashing red light and no charging. I noticed that when using the AC charger, the light blinked yellow. I assumed that this meant SOME charging was taking place, but only intermittently before it would return to the blinking red.

I assumed the AC charger gave it a little juice whenever it was plugged in, which dissipated as soon as the n900 tried to engage whatever charging mechanism it has, returning it to the blinking red state.

I resolved the issue in the following way:
Using the AC charger, I plugged the microUSB cable into the port and left it plugged in for only about a second - just long enough for the yellow light to come on. I would then immediately unplug the cable. Then, I plugged it back in - once again, for only about a second. I repeated this process a few times, and then plugged the cable in and left it in. I noticed that this time, some screen almost came up before it returned to the red low-battery blinking state. I saw that progress was made, so I returned to plugging the AC charger in and out (bear in mind, you must plug/unplug the microUSB end, NOT the AC-prong end, as it seems that the AC-DC adapter needs that one second to energize its internal electronics, and will NOT put out as much juice as the n900 needs in that one second) for about 5 minutes. It felt very dumb, but it upon plugging the cable in for the last time, the battery seemed to have enough charge to enter a charging state.

The n900 seemed to forget what country I lived in after this process, but that was easy enough to input.

I had tried to reproduce the problem, and did so successfully. This time, though, the battery was so dead that the yellow light would not come on - only the red. After repeatedly plugging the microUSB cable in and out every second or so (this was the test where I found you should not plug/unplug the AC-DC adapter itself, but only the cable), it eventually got to a state where it could fully charge.

Hope this helped. You may toss me a line if this helped you or if you have other questions about my experience: freddfu@yahoo.com

Update: If the battery is discharged fully, the above will not help at all. In this case, you need to charge up the battery manually. You can try charging it in another N900, or a N810 http://www.maemonokian900.com/maemo-news... or get creative like I did. I used a battery holder lying around to stick some AA batteries together, and fiddled with some of the batteries to get around 5V. I simply jump-started the BL-5J by connecting the +/- terminals of the battery pack to the +/- terminals of the N900 battery. I measured with a multimeter once in a while to make sure I did not overcharge the BL-5J. After sufficient charging, I slapped it back into the N900, and it worked like a charm. Those who are particularly uncreative should attempt to buy a replacement battery before turning to other, more extreme measures. This is a frustrating issue to deal with, so in the future, never let your N900 discharge completely! Hope this helps.

My Nokia n900 is not charging fully especially using the wall socket charger, i love this phone only this problem. thanks!

Ifthe is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time.If the battery drops to an unacceptable chargelevel then the battery needs to be replaced.

The problem with my nokia n900 is when the battery finsh and the phone turn off icant charge my phone nokia n900 can you help mee plzzzzz

Remove and re-install the battery. Keep the phone switched off and connect the charger. Wait a few minutes before you attempt to switch it on again. If this does not work, your battery is fried due to deep discharge and needs to be replaced.

Update the Maemo 5 operating software on your phone, the current release removes a lot of software problems, including the charge blockade in low battery situation.

N900 freezing and turning off

My advice is to download the latest firmware from Nokia website (which is version PR1.2) and install it through the USB cable provided to you. If this is something you can not personally do, please go to an authorised nokia service point and have this done for you. They should NOT charge you but ask about that before. For the battery removal issue, there is a way to bypass this process. Please press the power on/off switch for about 10 seconds. normally the device will unfreeze and go off without having to remove the battery. wait a few seconds and then you should be able to switch it on again.

thank you :-)
