This is normal residue of the cleaning the dust and other particles from your houses air. Just clean the collection bldes as recommended and the wire with the pull up slide cleaner on the unit!

Does anyone in your house smoke? Could be from cigarettes. I was told by the Ionic Pro Company to clean the blades with rubbing alcohol.

Holmes blizzard table fan

take it to your nearest gas station and get the air hose and spray it with the air then take some w-d 40 and with the long red tube attachment that comes with it spray it in the middle moving parts of the fan.the air from the air hose might turn the blades so stick a pencil or something in there first to keep blades from rotating then spray the dust off the blades with the airhose

Unit will sometimes make a crackling noise.

Mine does it too, I finally just tried something else when I was cleaning the blades. I took some alcohol on a qtip and with the blades out of the machine I wiped up and down the line wires that are inside that go from the top to the bottom, and also the little balls that are on the bottom of the wires that slide when you turn your unit upside down. It seems to work, I do it every time I clean the blades. scribner062

Unplug the unit and slide the cartridge out. If you look at this with a flashight you'll see that the blades are coated with a fine coating of tinted(brownish) film. If you wipe a spot with your finger you'll see the clean part shine through. Very carefully place the cartridge back in taking care not to disturb the small black plastic feeler on the very bottom side edge. This must align with the two wires running lengthwise up and down. Thank you, Dana

The cleaning led came on. After cleaning the blades, it remains on... Is there something else that I need to clean to get the led to go off and have the unit resume operation?

Try shaking it back and forth with it upside down.  We frequently have to use an air hose and blow the  insides out. If the wires have a build up on them the LED light continues to show.  You can also (very gently wipe down the wires.

I used a can of compressed air to clean my fan blades and this did the job. I bought a 6-pack of 3M Dust Remover at Sams Club to save money. Hope this helps.
