try booting into safe mode
tap the F8 key during boot up and select safe mode,
attempt a scan disk, virus scan (avg works in safe mode)
then reboot, if it works, fine no problem sometimes windows has a hiccup during booting,
otherwise if you have recently installed anything (including drivers) try removing them in safe mode and booting back to normal windows.
if all else fails windows reinsallation may be required
Scanning will work as separate plug in, when you request to acquire image from scanner from a standard image editor it will bring the task. Would you mind to provide your operating system and the programs that you are using for image editing so I can provide steps to scan.
The Vista drivers available on the Lexmark website do not contain the All-In-One Center. They are minimum drivers. Although the scan drivers are shipped with the web package, they cannot be used by the All-In-One Center since it is not included. Please use Windows Scanners and Cameras or Photo Gallery for Scanning. File Size: 26.32 MB
Check the resolution of your scanned pictures. I don't know what program you use to view your scanned images, but although you see what looks like the proper image size to you may actually be a reduced size so that it fits on the screen. Check the percentage of view that should be indicated on your screen somewhere, It may say something like 10%. Since I don't know what software you are using to scan with, look in its help directory for instructions on how to adjust or reduce the resolution when you scan you images. Either that or once scanned open up your images with a image editing application and adjust the resolution there.
I believe you must select a different application to use for the Scan. Click the cancel From the ALL-IN-ONE center scanning and copying tab, choose a different application from the "SEND SCANNED IMAGE TO" menu.
