On the edge of the card there is a very small slider that needs to be moved to the opposite direction.
it will only move a fraction of an inch but that will remove the write protection

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Unprotect images?

You can unprotect an image the same you you protected it. Press the MENU button, select the wrench icon, then select the key icon.

Details are in the "Protect" section of the manual (page 111 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one from the manufacturer's web site at

My nikon coolpix L100 is not uploading pics unto my mac

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

I have about 20 picture on my camera that is on my camera memory and not on my memory card. How can I download these pictures to my computer to get them off my camera?

You have two options.

1) From the Setup menu choose the Copy option and use it to copy pictures from the internal memory to the memory card. Once done you can download the pictures from the memory card as usual.

2) Remove the memory card, if any, and then connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB cable. You can then download the pictures from there.
