Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Mitsubishi Projection TV 60 inch that I purchased about 3 years ago, now out of warranty. Technician came out said some type of module and it would be about $800 to fix. Model WD52525. The TV will not come on. There is a button next to the on button power that reads "tuner" that light keeps flashing on and off. What type of module to repair myself. Thanks.

There so many problems with this exact model. Finally last year Mitsubishi to avoid class action lawsuits decided to offer an entire Chassis replacement. Essentially it replaces about 80% of the set at one shot; the units are or were only available from a authorized service center and wholesale for about 200 dollars.

Unit is sold on an exchange basis so a refundable core value is also added.

Local shops here able to do this are getting about 5-6 hundred parts and labor.

This is nothing a do it yourself person can go in and replace parts.

MITSUBISHI 60 INCH PROJECTION TV WITH LITTLE WHITE DOTS ON SCREEN

You will need the DLP chip replaced. I do not recommend trying this on your own on a Mitsubishi. You need a technician who has extensive Mitsubishi experience to replace that chip(if it is available for your particular model) If the chip is not available for your particular model, it means replacing the light engine. For that cost I would update to a LCD or LED TV & come out ahead.
If you want an idea what it costs to replace the DLP chip (if avail for your unit) contact a local servicer & see what they can quote you over the phone. Be sure you are sitting down.
Considering the age of your unit I would be looking at an LCD or LED flat screen.

I have the same TV which had the same issue ( green in picture ) - back on 10/2007. I called Sony. They had their technician replace the optical box ( factory defect ). There was no charge for the repair even though TV was out of first year of warranty. Call Sony.

How much is a 1998 26 inch Sharp tv worth?

If it is in good working condtion and looking very clean you may be able to get about $60 to $100 for it. Remember that there are new LCD TV sets that are very low in cost and will out perform your set.
I have seen some 24 inch models on sale for under $250 with a 3 year warranty. And, these sets will work in 16:9, has component inputs, and are packed with features.

In these times, people are trying to get rid of their CRT sets and change for the LCD types.

A 24 inch flat screen TV has about the same viewing as a 25 to 26 inch CRT TV.
