Ac cools camper fan blower turns off compressor

When i turn on the air conditioner it cools my camper, the fan turns off but you can hear the compressor still making a humming sound, the only way to get it to stop is shutting the circut breaker for the a/c off. it will eventully stop on its own, but will cycle off and on until i flip the breaker.

When air conditioner turns off out doors I can still hear it running in the attic.

Are you sure you are hearing the air conditioner running, or maybe just the blower? The blower may continue to run to further dry the evaporator core and reduce the chances of mold and mildew formation.

When the unit is turned on. I can hear the AC pump kick on and run. But the blower fan motor will not turn on at any fan speed. No setting on the AC will get the blower fan to turn on?

Sounds like then fan has died or the run capacitor has die. All motors that run on single phase mains need a capacitor to start them spinning. These are quite cheap & simple to replace usually - worth just replacing if you feel you can't test it. Looks a bit like a 'D' cell battery with 2 leads hanging out. Could also be that the unit is not cooling/heating and the temp sensor will not activate fan until heating/cooling coolant has passed room temp. - Rick

Fan runs but no cool air. I don't think compressor is kicking in. Thermostat is working because when I adjust temp to be below or equal to air temp, AC unit turns on. When air temp drops as trailer cools...

Have you cleaned the unit? The condenser coil? The filter? The evapartor coil? Sounds like an airflow problem. You need to clean these areas. You can clean the condensor coil with water hose and a coil brush you can get at the hardware store. Clean the evaparator with the same brush. YOU can use a hairbrush if you don't have anything else. But make sure you go up and down on the fins on the coils not sideways. You might check your blower fan for dirt also. Good luck I hope I helped you. Could also be low on charge but first try cleaning.

Just bought a used 1987 Real-Lite truck camper. The roof air unit is Dometic as well as the LP/AC refrigerator. When turned to "cool" the air conditioner really draws down, dims the lights, and eventually...

To start with, if it's plugged in to a 15 amp breaker, and extension cord, the compressor starting up may just be enough to trip the breaker. It will draw close to 15 amps on start-up of compressor, and if there is a light extension cord used to plug it in, that only makes it worse. Make sure you shut all other breakers off in panel except AC, and try it. If you have water heater on hydro, fridge on hydro, and then try to start AC compressor, you'll be way over the 15 amps, especially if it's a light extension cord.
Keep in mind, in order for fridge to work, you need 12 volts DC (Battery) power going to back of fridge. If the controls aren't lighting up at top, you've most likely got no 12 Volt DC power going to fridge. Check all fuses as well.

if you hear the compressor turning on,no heat, the coolant has leaked out. if the compressor doesnt turn on, its a control issue.

Problem with my AC unit

Hi Phillip,

Check your thermostat wires to see if you have any of them which are bare and touching. If any are touching separate them and tape em up and try unit again. You have a direst short in your cooling portion of the unit.

Air conditioner fan will not come on and unit will run for 1 minute and stop

You hear the compressor kick in (Hum) but no fan comes on? Will the fan come on when just in fan mode, not cool, or do you have that set-up?

If you have an electronic thermostat, they can short out, leaving the compressor running. Also, the big relay that runs the compressor can get its contacts welded together. See if the contacts are stuck closed.
