You can open your external drive and connect it directly to your computers IDE/SATA connectors and get in contact with the drive.
This only helps if the external drives circuit board is malfunktioning
and the drive itself is intact.
Its worth trying!!! if this helped, Please vote!

Your hard drive is damaged beyond repair.
When a hard disk makes a clicking sound and the computer does not detect it then the hard disk is faulty. This is commonly known as "The click of death".
There is no way of fixing this hard drive, if you need to recover your data, then there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

Sounds like hard drive failure to me.. if your computer doesn't detect the drive then it will be very difficult to retrieve the data back if its still under warranty I would try sending it back and see if they can recover the data if not if the data is important there are company's that will recover data but it comes at a price...

oped it, maybe loose cables or connections. or the worst case, a faulty hd. ticking sound means bad drive, cannot read disks. retrieve data? the better chance will be a recover technician, dont try anything else, will turn a worst problem.

Hard disk not recognised

When a hard drive makes a clicking noise, it is faulty. The clicking noise is the heads swinging back and forth. This hard drive is dead and the data is lost. If you desperately need to recover your data, there are companies that can recover and copy your data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

Computer is not longer recognising the external hard-drive is attached. it has just had a little bump with the desk! it is making a low beeping noise. tried on another pc and still nothing

well that beep sound comes when something goes wrong with the disk, so go to the authorized service station of the product and get it checked if it is repairable or not, if not then atleast they will help you in recovering the data from your hard disk

Getting ticking noise from the computer and it does not recognise the drive

The arm for the hard drive is probably bad. That is the ticking sound. The arm is loose and not reading the platters. If you have data that needs recovered from the drive, I wouldn't run it any more. Take the hard drive out of the case and find another computer you can put the drive in as a slave. You can try putting the hard drive in a freezer for an hour or so, plug it into another computer and try to get files off of the drive. This might work for a bit until the drive gets warm then you'll have to freeze it again. Freezing the drive might tighten the arm up enough to read for a short time to maybe recover files but the drive is probably toast.

2003 Mitsubishi Montero (full-size) check engine light is on, the engine sounds like it knocks as I accellerate and the shift diff. lights blink after driving 25 or 30 miles.

The engine is probably making a knocking sound because the oil needs to be changed or replaced. The check engine light is indicating that you will need regular dealership servicing soon, however you can still drive the vehicle but depending on mileage it will determine what services are required.
