I just bought a Brother 7820 Printer.....i am trying to setup the nework on it...while installing the software from the CD i can find that printer in my LAN and also i can get the IP address for it.....but after successfull installation I am not able to print anything!.......please help
Spoke to soon. the supplied disc failed working the next day.
I think your problem is your firewall!.
Disable the firewall and see if you can print / start it scanning from the brother control center.
If so you know its a firwall prob.
I gave up on trying to configure Norton to recognise it.
I uninstalled Norton Internet Security and then reinstalled it after making sure the printer was printing and the scanning etc could be started. Working fine so far ( a few hours). I am reasonably confident that this will be ok. If the machine has already communicated with the printer then Norton recognises this and allows it. If however the first time you try is after installing Norton it will block it!

Start > Control panel > Add or Remove (Programs) > (uninstall a program) > Highlight Brother Programs > Remove All components > Apply > OK > restart computer > use printer CD to carefully reinstall all the drivers and applications for both printer and scanner, without missing any tick/untick option boxes.
Wireless printers are first installed with either a USB cable connection to the computer or a LAN/Ethernet/CAT5e Network cable to a Wireless Router or WirelessRouter/Modem. Once the installation is complete, the cable can be disconnected.
During installation the SSID (name) and WEP, WPA or WPA2 Network Key (Access Code) will have to be installed to allow the printer acces to the Wireless Router and integrate it into the Network.
If you have no CD or the CD is faulty, scratched, damaged or suspect, download and install Windows or Mac OSX drivers, applications and any available firmware, updates or securirty patches from here:

Hi! Your Printer is connected to the (network) router via ethernet cable. Hence, it is a NETWORK PRINTER NOT A WIRELESS DEVICE, no matter your PC is connected to the network wirelessly. So, search for and install the printer as a NETWORK PRINTER. From the printer installation, it should searh and find the printer and susequently install the required drivers. Moreover, you may checkout the followings link for instructions on how to install/ add a network printer. LINK-1, LINK-2
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required. Hope it helps! Good Luck! CreativeTECH
In order for you to install it to your computer without the setup disc you need to download the software/driver from this link and use it for installation, just click HERE and proceed with the download.
Yes this is possible. Depending on the type of installation that has been done on the computer, you can even scan documents to your computer as a network scanner.
You can check and see if all the features have been installed on your computer. Click on start, all programs, and look for the folder called brother. If you can find brother you can look for the sub category for Conrtrol Center. From Control Center you can scan by clicking on one of the icons. Like file or image.
If none of this is installed, get your installation disk and install the software, you can do a network installation or a Local (USB) installation.
If you decide to do a Local installtion remember to only plug in the USB cable when promted to.
If you decide to do a network installation, the machine should already be installed on the network, which I assume it is since its being used as a network Printer.
Please let me know if any of this info was usefull, and if you require more info about this.
You have to know the IP Address of your printer before using it on the network. Once it is connected to a LAN, go through the printer menu - network setting - IP and print it out. With this you can publish the address when prompted ok. Or simply attach it to a pc and share it over the network. However, the pcs must be in the same workgroup or domain so as to see themselves. Good luck
Updated the Brother original driver(Full Driver & Software Package) for the following products to fix a driver installation problem:
FAX-2820, FAX-2920, DCP-7020, DCP-8060, DCP-8065DN, MFC-7220, MFC-7225N, MFC-7420 ,MFC-7820N, MFC-8460N, MFC-8660DN, MFC-8860DN, MFC-8870DW, MFC-9420C
And here is the link of the updated full driver and software package. After you download this, you should be able to run the MFC 7820 with your new laptop=)
We have multiple 7820s in our office. This would be a configuration problem with your windows XP computer. From the XP computer, open a command prompt and type "ping x.x.x.x" where x.x.x.x is the ip address of the 7820n. Make sure you get four successes. I would then uninstall the brother software and drivers and go to "printers and faxes" in the control panel and manually add the printer.
To manually add a network printer, with it's own print server, on Win XP:
1 Click "Add Printer"
2 Select "Local Printer Attached to this computer"
3 Deselect "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" then click "Next"
4. Click "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP" from the drop down. Click "Next". this will open TCP/IP Wizard
5. Type in Printer IP Address next to IP Address (Port name will autopopulate) and click "Next"
6. If wizard finds printer, it will show you "Finish" button. If you get a "Additional Port Information Required" window, something is wrong with your printer or windows xp network configuration.
7. When the TCP Wizard window closes, it will take you back to Add Printer Wizard. Select "Have Disk" and navigate to the \USA\WXP\Addprt directory on your Brother Drivers disc.
8. Select brxpadd.inf and click "Open" then click "OK"
9. Select "Brother MFC 7820 N Printer" from the list and click "Next"
10. Select name of printer, whether you want a default, print test page and DONE!
