Hello,

This a common symptom of a failing power supply. There are parts called capacitors that will start failing, when they do the power supply voltages will stabilize at the correct levels. This voltage problem causes the dark picture until they finally level out and the picture looks good until the next time you turn it off. We have an article posted on our web site that explains what the capacitors are, what to look for to repair the unit and what parts to get for the repair. Here is the link: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/capacitors/ You can look over the other repair guides for the brands we have on the site to get an idea of what is involved in the repair. If you can solder then you should be able to do the job yourself. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service, details on that can be found here: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/service-request-form/ If you would like additional help on your power board you can post a few pictures and our service techs will help you trouble shoot and repair it. You can post pictures here: http://www.ccl-la.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=b10a576721bcdf603d13ffbdf67d6e5f

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

I have a 2008, Vizio VO47L 47 in. LCD TV. When I first turn it on, the left side(facing) of the screen is dark. Not completely black just shadowy dark for over an hour. Then it goes away, It used to last...

Faulty T-con board or mainboard (AKA tuner board)...the tapping would make me believe it to be the connection of the LCD panel to the T-con board that is causing the issue! This board is located on the top of the tv while looking down from the back. Replace it and you will be good to go!

Please rate if this helped :)

My TV picture seems to have a "sheen" aking the

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

I have a Samsung LN46C650 and sometimes the picture goes black and the audio cuts out for a second or two. It occurs at least once a day but it happens at random so I cannot duplicate the situation. I'm...

I have the same problem. At first the tv would just blink occassionaly and the sound would cut out just like yours. We realized if we turned the tv off then back on, it would be fine. Well, that's not working anymore, and as opposed to a blink, the tv picture is cutting off all together, can't imagine it will do anything but get worse. I called Samsung about another problem I had with the tv, the autofit screen size selectioon was great, however over time, on some channels there got to be a progressivley larger white line at the top of the screen. At first we could adjust the picture up to completely close the line. Now it is too large to cover up. Samsung said, "that's normal."....progressively worse performance?

Hourglass picture. Panasonic CT-35G30T The picture is hour glassing from the sides. Starts to flicker back to normal after 1 to 2 hours. Getting progressively worse. Takes longer time to reach normal...

This is caused by bad solder connections in what's called the pincushion correction circuit. Some of the transistors get quite hot, and over time the solder connections to the TV circuit board become intermittent. When you tap the set, it causes them to make contact again so the picture is normal, but then it goes funny again. Resoldering the connections would take care of this problem. I would suggest calling a professional in to make the repair, which would cost far less than a replacement TV.

Hope this has been helpful, and thanks for using Fixya!

Picture goes out right after turning on, have to

My 3 year old Sharp LC-40C32U would start up fine but within a minute would go dark (audio continued fine). For a while I could turn the set off and on again and it would be fine, but over time this became less effective. My solution, which has worked for a week now, was to a) unplug the set's power cord; b) after 3 minutes plug it back in and turn the set on; c) on the remote hit MENU and slide over to SETUP (3 clicks to the right if the screen is dark) and one up to RESET; d) hit ENTER and follow the prompts. This puts the set in it's factory configuration so you will have to rescan for channels. Worked for me.
