SOURCE: Where can I get the special tool to adjust the

The special toll your looking for is a thin bladed screwdriver. Some carbs have and idle and a "H" (high) adjustment only Others have third setting for "L" (low). The adjustment for idle (top of carb) is a personal judgment call but it should remain running at a low RPM. The adjustment for "H" Is done with full throttle and to the pint that it just does run at full speed without missing. DO NOT set it too lean (clock wise) or you will end up with a short lived blower. As far as setting the "L" speed (on models so equipped) you dial that one in by allowing the unit to idle then rapidly accelerate the engine to full speed. If it hesitates you turn it no more than 1/8 th turn each time and keep repeating the accelerate to full throttle rapidly routine until the hesitation stops. A few of these models have a plastic cover over the "H" adjustment screw. On some of them you can do about 1/4 turn with the cover installed but have to pry it off the jet screw head if further adjustment if required.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have just put in new carb an need help to do the settings

If it is a Zama carb, the set up procedure for a new carb is on line. Only problem is that with the new carbs you might need a special tool to adjust the low and high mixture screws. To get around this you can use a dremel tool to cut a straight groove across the head of the adjuster(s) so you can then use a flat blade screw driver.

Fixed carb still wont run right

If you are sure the carb is rebuilt correctly then you will need to adjust the high speed screw to get the fuel mix right. There is a small H on the side of the carb that denotes the high speed screw and usually takes a special tool to adjust it. The government made them tamper proof but you can purchase splined screw driver to adjust them with.

Can get it to stay running

The carb is running too lean, statrt by replacing the fuel filter in the tank, check for any fuel leaks from the hoses, if this checks out ok, you need to richen the fuel mixture on the L and H screw on the carb, depending on which carb is fitted you may need a special tool to adjust the mixture screws, turn each screw out ( anti clockwise ) 1/4 turn and try again.

I have a No.359 Won't stay running, I put new fuel, spark plug,carb-kit? Also, do you need a special tool to adjust carb?

The carb screws have anti tamper sleeves on ( one red one white ) to adjust the screws you need to draw the caps back, you can do this with a small self tapping screw, screw it into the centre of the cap, when it hits the adjuster underneath the cap will draw back as you carry on screwing it in, only pull the cap back far enough ( approx half way ) you can then remove the screw and insert a 2mm flat blade screw driver through the centre of the cap, the adjuster underneath will now turn, the reason not to take the can right off is because the screws are only 2mm across, and it is near impossible to adjust the saw whilst it is running.

I have a sears 27cc weedeater. I need to adjust the carb low and high but it looks like a female torx type of screw. What size is the female torx and where do i get the tool

unfortunately you have to order this special tool and it doesn't go by size but rather by name. It's a 2-stroke carb adjustment tool. find a small a small engine shop in your area and have them order one for you or you could do a google search for small engine repair speciality tools.

24cc craftsman 2 stoke trimmer. took apart everything and cleaned. new fuel lines. cleaned air filter. ran fine saturday. now sunday bogs out while trying to throttle up or just stalls.

Low side adjustment on the carb needs to be opened up or the carb needs to be overhauled. To open up the low sie, find the carb jet adjustment screws. The screw closest to the cylinder is the low side. Turn the screw counter-clockwise 1/2 turn. You may need to romove tho plastic locks from the adjustment screws, or if it is fairly new, you may need to buy a special tool to use on these screws. The tool is available anywhere that sells Poulan parts. If adjusting the screws doesm't fix it, the carb will need to be overhauled or replaced. Check with . Replacement carbs are sometimes cheaper than an overhaul.
Good luck!

How to adjust the low and high settings on the carb

With all the new EPA guidlines on emissions there are many new type of carbs. The older type was easy, If its a walbro or zama brand and it has 2 adjustment screws as well as an Idle speed, preset the low and high at 1.25 turns out from set, start the saw, run it to full throttle, adjust the high speed needle counter clockwise untill you hear the engine start to flutter. You want to year the flutter about once every 4 seconds.then let it idle, adjust the low speen till it runs smooth then make it 1/8 turn richer. Many of the new carbs require special tools to adjust, not brain surgery, just to keep the air cleaner..

Adjust high low screws on carb.

I just finished looking at mine and I think they made it that way so back yard mechanics dont tinker with it. If there is a Poulan dealership in yout area that would be the place to get it.
