You may have bad solder connections on some surface mount resistors inside the deck.

My CD drive wont open, no idea whats wrong? Help? Toshiba Satellite L505 running Windows 7

Sounds like there's no power going to the drive, or it's jammed.

Stick a paperclip into the hole on the drive's faceplate. This should manually eject it. Close it and you should see a blinking green light, if not then the drive is not getting any power.

Xbox wont turn on

Hi,
Your console should turn on when the eject button is pressed. Press the eject button on the front of your console.
If the console turns on when you press the eject button but not when you press the power button, the console faceplate might not be attached properly. To make sure that the faceplate is attached correctly, you should remove it and reattach it.
  • Position your console horizontally, as you would position a DVD player.
  • Unplug the power cord and any other cables connected to the back of your console.
  • While holding your console firmly, curl your fingers inside the oval USB door on the front of the console.
  • Push the faceplate away from the console with your thumb until the faceplate comes off.

Note You will need to use some force to remove the faceplate.
Once the faceplate is removed, look at the tabs on the back. If any of the tabs shown in red in the illustration below are broken, order a replacement faceplate by contacting Xbox Support.
If none of the tabs are broken, re-attach your faceplate by pressing it firmly until it clicks into place.Try to turn on your console again. If removing and reattaching the faceplate did not solve the problem contact the xbox support.
Thank you!

KDC MP242 faceplate will not light. I have the unit run directly through the car vehicle battery for power. The CD player will accept and eject a disk, so I know the unit is getting power. However, I...

Im not sure if this is gonna fix your problem because im not exactly sure what you mean when you say you ran the player directly to the battery....but if the faceplate is not lighting up then it is possible that you may have not connected some of the wires properly. Some head units come with illumination wires which I believe are usually orange and that could fix the problem of the faceplate not lighting up....I hope that you are not actually running it straight to your battery..like under your hood, straight to your battery. I would imagine that you have purchased the proper wire harness and have matched the wires properly in the dash to the radio harness. If you do not have all of the wires hooked up and the harness plugged in to the radio and ready to go like your gonna put it in the dash to bolt it in then do that. Hook everything up properly with the wires and the harness so its like its ready to be bolted in and then test it...if the faceplate is still not lighting up then you may need to bring it somewhere to have it done professionally or if you are confident you are doing everything properly then it could be a faulty screen. I can add that I have installed many radios and had have lots that I have not needed a use of that orange illumination wire for.....its pretty straight forward just matching the colors and connecting them...but if you have never done it then you should probably take it somewhere, just not sure if you have ever done it before. Hope this was helpful to you.. :) Good Luck!

It you are not getting any error lights at all when you turn it on it is a power issue. What color lights are on the power supply when you plug it in (before powering the 360 on) and what color lights do you have after you try to power it on? Orange means the power supply is in stand-by mode or the plug is not correctly plugged into the system (when you try to power it on. Red means the power supply detected a fault, it is either too much current, to little current or overheated power supply. Plug the power unit directly into a wall outlet, no extension cords or power supplies. Has you son changed or played with the faceplate? Sometimes when you remove or change the faceplate they don't seat correctly and the power button on the faceplate does not contact the power switch under the faceplate. My guess would be an issue with the power supply so I would start there first.

Best,
Bob

Won't turn on

My only other hypothesis is that, similar to my wife's Kenwood deck that has the MASK motorized faceplate, the flex cable that connects the moving faceplate portion to the main unit has started to crack and lose connection. After a few years of moving back and forth, folding and unfolding, this seems to be a pretty common thing. I was able to replace the flex cable on my wife's deck, but only because I stumbled across detailed instructions (with pictures!) and I got lucky with the replacement cable being in stock at a local repair shop. Your mileage may vary :)

Hi bacbeats,

You nered to clean the contacts on the main unit and the faceplate, evidently you have contamination keeping the power from getting from the main head unit to the faceplate.
