To configure the wireless settings on your router, you need to access the setup page using a wired computer.

On your browser's address bar, type www.routerlogin.net.

Default username is admin.
Default password is password.

Once in the netgear setup page, go to Wireless settings.

The default SSID (wireless network name) is NETGEAR. You may change this to any name that you want so that you may identify which is your wireless network.

You may also enable the wireless security. For example, WEP. You may generate a passphrase. Make sure you take note of the key1 because this will serve as a password to connect wirelessly on your wireless computers.

Once you have completed the wireless settings on the router, your wireless computer should be able to detect the SSID. When you connect, it will prompt for a network key. Type the key1 that you get from the router's setup page.

I hope this helps!

I am trying to set up my Avertec N1200 laptop with Windows XP to my Netgear wireless router. The router does not have a USB connection, but I have a Netgear wireless USB adapter. Also, I am getting the msg...

The Netgear Wireless USB adapter should be connected to your Avertec N1200 laptop to act as a wireless antenna. The driver for your Netgear Wireless Adapter should also be installed on your laptop. Once installed, click on the Windows Orb button on the lower left corner of your screen and go to All Programs. Look for the installed program for your Netgear Wireless Adapter to open up the wireless utility of your wireless adapter. That's where you should connect the wireless connection and not on Windows Wireless Manager.
