Pioneer VSX-815-K receiver with sub in standby

I have a Pioneer VSX-815-K receiver. Recently the subwoofer stopped working. I took it to the Geek Squad and they sent it off. If came back saying the subwoofer was "turned off." I poured over the manual the found nothing about turning off the subwoofer and when I picked it up they could not tell me how turn it off/on but it worked in the store. After a couple of weeks the subwoofer is once again "turned off" (the sub has the standby light on). What is going on with this thing? Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply, however:

    >"Have you looked in the manual?"

    As I said originally:

<"I poured over the manual the found nothing about turning off the subwoofer"

    >"No sound from subwoofer. ? Make sure the subwoofer is switched on."

< The subwoofer is on but in standby.

    >"If the subwoofer has a volume knob, make sure it?s turned up."

    >"The Dolby Digital or DTS source you are listening to may not have an LFE channel."

    >"Switch the subwoofer setting in Speaker Setting on page 40 to YES or PLUS."

< It already is set to yes.

    >Switch the LFE Attenuator Setup on page 61 to LFEATT 0 or LFEATT 10.

< It is already set to 0.

Here is more, perhaps helpful, information. The sub inexplicably started working for a few minutes then went off again (standby mode). I again attempted to run through the SP Setup (p. 48) and discovered that when cycling through the speakers, the sequence was 'F', 'C', 'S', 'SB' and back to 'F'. Note the obvious missing setting.

Have you looked in the manual?

No sound from subwoofer. • Make sure the subwoofer is switched on.
• If the subwoofer has a volume knob, make sure it’s turned up.
• The Dolby Digital or DTS source you are listening to may not have an LFE channel.
• Switch the subwoofer setting in Speaker Setting on page 40 to YES or PLUS.
• Switch the LFE Attenuator Setup on page 61 to LFEATT 0 or LFEATT 10.

The manual is here...

Flashing Blue is not defined in the manual.

Have you tried changing the Auto Standby switch to ON?

You can prove if the sub amp will respond to a known good input by TURNING ITS VOLUME DOWN tp start and just feeding it ANY RCA output from the receiver while playing, say, FM (to keep it simple). That way you would known in which direction the problem actually lies (internal or external).

"enter and advanced surround keys"? I don't see that documented as a special function in the manual.

BTW: other than the Flashing light, is there a malfunction?

Page 72 describes how it REALLY resets...

Resetting the main unit

Use this procedure to reset all the receiver's settings to the factory default. Use the front

panel controls to do this.

1 Switch the receiver into standby.

2 While holding down the TONE button, press and hold the STANDBY/ON button for about three seconds.

3 When you see RESET? appear in the display, press ENTER .

OK? shows in the display.

4 Press SYSTEM SETUP to confirm.

OK appears in the display to indicate that the receiver has been reset to the factory default
settings.

Where do my subwoofer speaker wires get hooked up to on the back of the reciver vsx-815 ??

Hi there, the Pioneer VSX-815 amplifier only feeds out a mono LINE LEVEL output with the subwoofer signal. Therefore you would need to connect the SUB PREOUT jack at the rear of the unit to the "line level input" on a self-powered subwoofer. Hope this helps.. Cheers, Yusuf

Pioneer Elite vsx-27tx receiver with no bass!?

There may be a subwoofer mute function on your amp. The sub out is nothing more than a preamp output with a low frequency response. It is meant to be amplified by an external amp. Either check your powered subwoofer for operation or look through your operators manual for a sub mute function.

Sub woofer

Hello,
The subwoofer is totally independent from your Pioneer VSX-D412. You can check if it works like you did with a finger on the hot point of the RCA cable (not very good test, as you will hear noise and can't say if that means it works OK) or better connect a known receiver to the speaker connections in the sub and test to see if it’s working properly.
Regarding the receiver, you may not have enabled the VSX to output to the sub. Read the manual on how to check for that. Only Dolby Digital 5.1 signals will allow the sub out, in a receiver of this level. It normally will not let you use the sub in stereo mode. Some more complex units will allow you that, but I believe not this model.
Good luck
