I have the same problem.. It's my girlfriends camera and her birthdays coming up soon and I can't think of a better present than fixing that.. If anyone knows how to fix it please Email me or something. Austinliebst@hotmail.com . I would greatly appreciate it!

the camera is a POS. My local sony service centre told me a lot of w40 and w70 cameras come in with the same problem, yet sony will not provide warranty support for this problem. I'm not paying $50 to get a $100 camera fixed.

I dropped the camera and when i tried to turn it on, this happened. did anyone else drop it?

  • Anonymous Nov 23, 2008

i dropped my camera by accident and now it wont turn on, or it will turn on, but automatically turn off in a second!

Access appears on the screen when I turn it on but the lens won't open. It seems to try, but won't work. Then the screen says turn the power off and on again. I do that, but to no avail. Smacking in on a table used to do the trick but it no longer works. My camera is not even two years old.

My camera did the same thing, lens retracts 3 or 4 times, and then proceeded with an error message "turn off and on again". I pressed the power button probably about 10 times, didn't work, so then i gave it a good smack on the top of the frame a few times while repeatedly pressing the power button and it did the trick. Hasn't gave me problems since...hope it helps

I thought you were kidding...My camera was doing the exact same thing. So, I figured what the heck and gave it a few smacks. Sure enough, it actually worked. Incredible! Just needed an attitude adjustment I guess. Thank you.

SONY CYBER SHOT NOT WORKING

Hello samtx930, "turn off the power and on again" its a very commen problem and occurs when the lens block assembly start malfunctioning. Actually the slide motor not work properly and until the lens not come out completely the camera will not work, that's why the error message appears "Access" and then screen shows "turn off the power and on again". In this situation you have to replace lens block assembly. And the part No. is with description is given below: 1-788-363-11 OPTICS UNIT (ED13A) Thanks for using fixya.

If this error message appears, turn off the camera and remove the batteries for 30 seconds. Afterwards, reinsert the batteries and turn the camera back on. If this doesn't work, perform a manual reset of the camera. If you need an online manual here is a link with troubleshooting http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DSCW40_EN.pdf
