Question about HP LaserJet 2420 Printer
Only 2 possibilities. The most common cause and the easiest to check is the toner cartridge. If you have a spare just swap out the cartridge and try another print to see if it clears. If you do not have a spare take out the toner cartridge and turn it over. Open the gate that covers the drum and see if you see the same smudges on one side of the drum. If so then it is the cartridge as this drum should be clean.
If the drum is clean or a cartridge swap does not fix the problem then the problem is the fusing unit or more specifically the fuser film is bad. You will then need to do a fuser change or get a local person out to change the "fuser film" About $150 total if they do the film, about $300 if they do a fuser unit complete.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
