Thank you for all the information! You are great at thinking of everything and then putting in an easy to read format. It looks like the lid switch is ok but the plastic rod does not push the lid switch in enough for it to work. When the lid switch is pushed down with a screwdriver the washer works fine. So a new plastic rod has been ordered. It is only $4.00 you have saved us a lot of money that at this time we do not have. I appreciate your expertise, thoughtfulness and generosity. God Bless

I could not cross reference the model number you provided to any washer model. Could you please verify your model number again (located on a nameplate along the wash tub rim under lid) and post back? The closest matching number I found was "KAWS700GQ0". Could you have looked at the characters wrong? This washer is manufactured by Whirlpool. The most common cause of the problem you are experiencing is a lid switch malfunction. Symptoms may include, filling and stopping on the intial fill cycle, a wash tub that will not drain, and stopping right after the wash cycle and not advancing to rinse or spin cycles.

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because It does not have a lid strike and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator by bending it slightly.

NOTE: You do not have to drain or bail the water from the washer tub to perform this repair. Once a defective lid switch is replaced, the washer should drain normally.

A replacement lid switch (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The average price is about $20 - $30 if you perform the repair yourself. Prices differ between sites so shop and compare. The part number for the model number I provided you with is 3949247. You can view an image of the switch as item 11 in the parts listing here: http://pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

If you have questions, or need additional assistance, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER and let me know. The lid switch is a very simple repair that you can easily perform without the assistance of a repairman.

If this advice does not help you enough, repairclinic.com has a Repair Manual you can order to assist you with all your repairs. The part number is 1170635 and is priced at about $20. Searspartsdirect.com also has a repair manual for about the same price. Part number 4314044L. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Model MAH 7800 drain pump will not run, door locks, tub spins, water drains by gravity

Well your drain pump needs attention for sure. There could be an object lodged against propellers or it may need to be relaced. Try unplugging the connector that goes to the pump and plugging back in. Also try tapping the the motor part of the drain assembly while in spin cycle before replacing. Good luck.

Hello I have a Maytag Washer Model A512 The machine goes through a regular cycle OK - However, it DOES drains the water out during the rinse cycle, but does NOT drain the water out during the spin...

The timer will always advance to the next program if the machine does not fully drain. There is ALWAYS a spin when draining the water out, there is only one pump and one motor. The waterlogged laundry maybe telling the timer that there is still water in the tub. Put the machine on "Spin" and cheat the lid switch into thinking that the lid is closed. Use a clothes peg or wide ended screwdriver and see if there really is a spin....

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check the water pump. Either the water pump bearing is bad or there are some tiny pieces of debris stuck in the water pump. It is located below the door latch assembly. Remove the front panel and check the drain pump which is attached with hoses. Remove its clamps and clean the drain pump. You can also remove the drain pump by unbolting it from the washer base. If still the issue persists, then check the motor speed control board which is located inside the bottom of the washer. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or
post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Kenmore washer - water won't drain. It stops

If the water drains between the wash and rinse cycles, your motor and pump are probably OK. If this is a machine with a dial, try a different cycle, like normal instead of heavy duty. If that works and the machine completes the entire cycle then the timer probably has a bad spot. You might try to find a replacement timer if that is the case although I didn't have any luck with my 10 year old washing machine. Best of luck

WASHER SHUTS OFF BEtween wash cycle and rinse

Sounds like you have a bad timer. Simply purchase the timer. Remove the screws on the backside of the control panel and remove the defective unit. Replace the timer keeping careful attention on the placement of the original wiring. Also, when you have trouble with the unit not running for rinse and spin cycles, it is generally a good idea to replace the lid switch as well.

My washer when it is in the wash cycle will stop at 1/2 way and not drain, spin or rinse. Could it be the timer? If I turn the knob manually I can get it to finish the cycle.

If you can manually turn the timer to spin and it drains and spins it is a bad timer.
If it drains only and does not spin it is a bad lid switch.

gabehart....sounds like belt is slipping. Replace it. The water pump is on a separate smaller motor so is not affected by the agitator/spin motor.

My washing machine gets stuck after rinse cycle

Before spending any money calling a repairman or changing parts, check the drain hose. If it is too deep down into the drain pipe then pull it back so that only about 6 to 10 inches is down the pipe. If it is too far down then it creates a vacuum which drains the water as it is trying to fill for the final rinse.
